Ronan answers on the third ring. “Ye better not be calling because ye’re in a spot of bother. I’ve already had to bail Liam out today, and I’m not in the mood.”

“Well, if ye’re bringing that pissy attitude, maybe I won’t be asking ye to be my best man.”

There’s a pause, and Ronan chuckles. “Finally got around to asking, did ye?”

“Aye, I did.”

“And the lass said yes?”

“Aye, she did.”

“Sure, and I’m glad for ye, Niall. When’s the big day.”

“Today.”

He chokes on air. “And when did ye ask her?”

“Today.”

I shake my head, rolling my eyes as I turn on the shower. Really, what’s with the twenty questions.

“I see. Ye waste no time, d’ye lad?”

“Sure, and why would I be wasting time? The lass agreed to marry me. Why wait?”

“Why wait indeed?” he chuckles. “At the courthouse?”

“Aye. Two hours.”

“I’ll be there. D’ye need me to get ye a ring?”

“I’ve one fer the lass. I need ye to pick up one fer me. Silver.”

“Consider it done.”

Hitting the button to end the call, I throw my phone onto the vanity, step into the shower, and tip my head back, letting the hot water flow over me. I’ll text Seamus to let him know when we’re at the courthouse. Mellie can invite who she likes. I only care about two people being there, Mellie and Ronan, and I’ve already asked them both.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Mellie

I text Fiona to meet us at the courthouse and find my nicest dress. It was a gift from Tiggy, so it’s a wicked fancy one. It matches my eyes, and Niall's eyes eat me up when I walk out of the bedroom.

“Ye look beautiful,” he breathes, reaching out and stroking my cheek, kissing me gently.

“You scrub up wicked good yourself,” I smirk at him.

I tell no word of a lie. Niall is in a black suit with an open-necked green shirt to match his eyes.

Tangling his fingers with mine, he leads me to the SUV to drive us to the courthouse, insisting on stopping at a flower shop to buy me a small bouquet of white calla lilies on the way. When we get to the courthouse, Fiona claps her hands and fusses with my hair while Ronan watches her with inscrutable eyes, turning to Niall.

“Sure, and I’m happy for ye, Niall,” he nods, clapping him on the shoulder. Niall nods curtly back.

I manage not to roll my eyes. Men. Ronan turns to me with a huge smile.

“Ye look lovely, Mellie.” He brushes a quick kiss over my cheek. “Being a bride suits ye.”

We have to jump through a series of hoops to get our application and license and pay an extra fee to get married today instead of in seventy-two hours. We also have to wait in line, but finally, the four of us are ushered into a small office. It’s not grand, romantic, or anything like that. It’s perfect.
