“I haven’t had any Bulgarians at the tables recently.”
Scowling, Seamus turns from his cousin to Paddy, his eyebrows raised expectantly.
Paddy shrugs. “I haven’t fought any Bulgarians recently.”
“Then why the feck did they hit Lucky’s car?”
Paddy scowls, rolling his eyes as he fixes them on Seamus. “Maybe your pa had it right. Maybe they were after your wife.”
At his words, Seamus lets out a chilling, low growl. He might have only been married to the lass for two weeks, but he’s getting mighty attached and more than a little possessive.
There’s a tap on the door, and Liam shoves off the sofa, opening it and stepping back to reveal Tiggy. For all his ‘I don’t give a fuck about any woman,’ Seamus sure shoves out of his desk chair quickly.
“Everything okay?”
Tiggy freezes like a little deer in the headlights, unconsciously cradling her broken fingers. I think her words died somewhere between her brain and her mouth. Paddy’s mouth twists into a sneer, and I take pity on her.
“She wants to know how everyone takes their eggs,” I grunt. Seamus’s eyebrows shoot up, a dark, angry look taking over his face. Jesus fuck, it’s like the joking thing last night. The man is possessive as fuck.
“Eggs?” Seamus spits out. Christ, the man has turned into a parrot. I decide to pipe up and save Tiggy, who looks like she wishes the floor would open up and swallow her.
“They’ll have them scrambled.”
Tiggy disappears, and Liam slowly closes the door as Seamus rounds on me.
“Fucking eggs?”
I lounge back in the easy chair. Fitzy’s possessiveness is interesting. I wouldn’t have expected it. I eye him coolly. It will take a lot more than a pissed-off Fitzpatrick to ruffle my feathers.
“Maybe if ye hung around long enough in the morning, ye’d know how fecking amazing at cooking breakfast yer wife is.”
Another growl rumbles out of him, and he takes two steps toward me before Connor pipes up, staying Seamus’s feet and fists.
“I heard the Romanians were running with the Belarussians recently.”
Distracted, Seamus turns to his cousin, dropping back into his desk chair and running a distracted hand through his hair.
“The Belarussians? We haven’t had anything to do with them recently.”
“No, but they run with the Romanians occasionally,” Paddy points out. Seamus frowns. “Maybe your pa was right about this being about your wife.”
The speculation carries Seamus over until Tiggy fetches us all for breakfast. I make sure to be the last one out of the room and seat myself at the other end of the table, staring at my plate as Seamus baits Tiggy about eating breakfast with me.
Unfortunately, the woman has less than no self-preservation and jokes about my staring at her arse in yoga class. Jesus fuck. I’ve done no such thing. Why would I look at Seamus’s little wife’s arse when I can log into the Oracle CCTV and stare at Mellie’s?
Tiggy’s clueless teasing pushes Seamus a little too close to the edge. The contrary prick sends Tiggy out of the room after announcing she’s to go to the club with him every day and proceeds to yell at me for not watching over her like I was supposed to. I’m not the one who let her get banged up on his watch.
“You’re there to look out for Tiggy, not to fucking eye off every piece of arse in tight pants,” Seamus rages at me. He seems like he needs to let off some steam, so I let him go on for a bit before cutting him off mid-rant.
“I’ve no interest in staring at any lass’s arses in those classes, Fitzy. I spend those fecking classes watching the instructor. The fecker has eyes for Tiggy. Goes to ‘help’ her get her positioning right and stretch more than any other lass there,” I snap back.
I should have kept my mouth shut. Seamus looks like he’s about to explode.
“Fucking what?” he hisses, his voice icy cold.
“I’ve had a word with the lad.” I crack my knuckles. “He knows Tiggy’s to receive hands-off classes in the future. Not that she’ll be back fer a while. She can’t be bendy with broken fecking fingers.”
I shoot another glare over at Paddy and Connor, who shift in their seats. Seamus nods, grinding his teeth, and slamming his fist on the table.
