“Couldn't be the kid in tights and afraid of a national monument.”

“Ha. Ha. Ha. You’re not so fearless yourself, Ms. Mitchell.”

“You got nothing.”

“Okay, then you can change the air filter next time.”

I gasped and slapped his arm. “You wouldn’t make me go into that creepy basement.”

“You’re right. I wouldn’t.” He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me to his side. “You’re lucky I love you.”

I gazed up at him, his dark brown eyes shadowed by the deep blues lighting the room. His lips spread into a breath-taking smile, and I fought the urge to kiss him. “I am.”

“Thank you for letting me love you.”

I ghosted my lips over his. “You’re welcome.”

Luca’s laugh let out a warm burst of air against my face. “Keep walking before I scar these kids for life and catch a charge.” He discretely patted my ass and moved us forward.

I couldn’t help but smile at the two kids in front of us discussing the exhibit.

Will we have artistic kids, or will I have to learn to like sports?

As if his brain was on the same wavelength, Luca said, “If we have kids, I want to do stuff like this with them.”

“If?”

His cheeks reddened, and he looked away. “We’ve never really had that talk, and I don’t want to assume.”

“You’ve met my mother.”

He laughed, and his hand squeezed mine. “But she’s not a reason to have kids. If we have them, I want us both to be one hundred percent sure.”

I tugged Luca away from the crowd of kids and made sure I had his full attention. “I’d never thought too much about kids until you. But now? Now, I know I want kids with you. I want the whole family thing. At my last annual visit, I had my IUD removed and am back on the pill. I figured it’d be easier for when we’re ready to try.”

“Yeah?” Luca grinned, running his hands up my arms.

“Yeah.” I bunched the front of his coat in my hands and pulled him down to me, our lips meeting in a mind-numbing kiss. His lips, so full and soft, claimed mine like he was about to knock me up right there in the museum. He tangled his fingers in my hair, tilting my head until my neck hurt, but I didn’t care. I’d take a little pain if it meant he kept kissing me like he owned me.

“Ew!” A chorus of little voices brought us back to our senses.

“Probably should cool it before we get arrested,” I whispered into Luca’s mouth.

“You ready for lunch?”

“I could eat.”

I followed Luca out of the exhibit and museum. The early spring air was still cold, but at least the sun was out after morning thunderstorms.

Luca opened my door and helped me get into his low-sitting sports car. We’d taken out one of his favorites for the day, and it was a chore to get my ass in and out of it, especially in the dress and shoes I was wearing.

I checked my phone as Luca walked around to the driver’s side, pleased to see no urgent emails or messages. Ashley really was an MVP.

“You ready for a make-up cake tasting?”

“Really?”

“Mhm.”
