I found her on the floor of her office, surrounded by binders and notepads. “Is all this for the next Moretti property?”

“The Casino.”

“Wait, we got the casino?” I patted my pockets, blowing out a breath. “I’ll be right back.” I walked as fast as my stilettos would allow back to my desk and snatched my phone. I had four voicemails from Luca and a text telling me to call him back. Tapping my foot, much to Frankie’s annoyance, I waited for Luca to answer.

“Luca.”

“We got it?” I damn near shouted.

“Well, good morning to you too.”

“Shut it. We got the casino?”

“Yeah, baby. We got it.”

“Yes!” I yelled, and Ashley ran into the room.

“Did you need anything else?”

My brain was already making plans for the card floor and the bars. “Uh. No. See you tonight?”

He chuckled. “I’m making dinner. Love you.”

“Love you too.”

I set my phone down and stared at Ashley. A huge smile spread across her face. The casino was a whole new level for our company. “You ready for this?”

“You saw the binders. I’ve never been more ready.”

“Let’s get started.”

The day flew by in a flurry of excitement and planning. Axel and Scott were tied up on the floor, but random outbursts could be heard up in our offices. We had a celebratory lunch and then had to work on other deadlines. By the time I made it home, it was late, and dinner sat on the table.

“Luca?” I hung up my coat and slipped off my shoes.

“Coming.”

He joined me in the kitchen as I set my purse on the island. The sleeves of his white dress shirt were rolled up, showing off his muscular forearms, and the top two buttons were undone, exposing a sliver of tan skin and a hint of black chest hair. My fingers itched to undo the rest.

Biting my lip, I sauntered up to him, my hands landing on his chest. “Hey, baby.”

Luca smiled down at me, his arms circling my waist and pulling me in. “Hey.” He placed a sweet kiss on my lips. “How was your day?”

“Pretty amazing. I can’t believe I missed your call about the casino.”

Luca’s chest shook against me as he palmed my ass. “The one day you aren’t taking my calls.” I laughed, but Luca continued, “I think you’ve learned your lesson.”

“And what lesson is that?”

He brushed a piece of hair off my cheek and cupped the back of my neck. “Don’t let Dimitri Chronis distract you.”

I went still, all humor draining from my body. Of course he knew. “Frankie.”

“Yeah. Frankie. You know, the guy in charge of keeping you alive.”

“It was nothing.” I pulled out of his hold and walked over to the island, where there was an open bottle of red and two empty glasses. The excitement of the day had effectively pushed Dimitri and his warnings to the back of my mind.
