“Ecstatic.” All I could think was,“be careful what you wish for.”

Without further ado, Luca’s lips crashed into mine, his hands exploring the curves he knew better than anyone.

My palms flattened down his chest and abdomen until I hit his belt. Luca thrust his hips toward me, tilting to give me easier access.

In no time at all, I had his pants and boxer briefs pushed to his knees and was stroking his hardening cock. I buried my smile in his shoulder as he moaned against my throat. Working him until my thumb brushed over a bead of moisture, I marveled at how right he felt in my hand.

Luca took a step back to pull down my panties, the cold countertop causing me to jump. “Fuck, that’s cold.”

He smiled, reaching for his wallet. As he rolled the condom on, he never made eye contact, the smile falling from his lips. With the way he scowled, it was like that condom was every person I’d fucked in the last year.

Guilt I didn’t want to accept crept in, making my chest feel heavy. Somewhere in me, I felt like I’d betrayed Luca. There’s no reasoning with my heart, no explaining the whys, only that I’ve kept us from what is ours, gave away what should’ve been Luca’s.

“What’d your erection ever do to you?”

Shaking his head, he looked at me with a strained smile.

Silently, he moved between my legs, easily sliding into me.My green eyes never left his dark stare. Every thrust silently punctuated with the words I knew he wanted to hear me say, wanted to say again.

I. Thrust. Love. Thrust. You. Thrust.

I wondered when this fucking love would die. When would be enough? The lust driving me a moment ago was gone. My body was finally getting the message.Luca’s thumb brushed my cheek, wiping away a tear. My breath caught with the sweet kiss he placed on my lips.

Arousal was the last thing on my mind. I prayed for him to come so I could leave and fall apart alone.

Moving his thumb from my face to where our bodies joined, he rubbed my clitslowly. The determination on his face let me know he refused to come before me.Our chests brushed together with labor breaths while he worked his hips and thumb to set my body on fire.

Closing my eyes, I tried to remove Luca from the equation and enjoy what he was doing to my body, but one whiff of cologne, and I couldn’t help but open my eyes and look at him.

“I don’t think I’m going to come, Luca. I—Just finish.”

His body stopped moving. In a strained voice, he said, “I’m sorry,Sasha.”Pulling out, he tossed the condom and turned his back to me, his broad shoulders moving up and down. “I just thought, maybe, I don’t know. Maybe enough time had passed. I was wrong.”When he turned around, his face was blank. “Let’s just get back to our dinners.”

He waited for me to slip my panties back up and fix myself in the mirror. The silence was crushing as his eyes observed my every move. I wondered if this would be the lasttimewe would ever be this close again, and I hated the fact that I cared.

Unlocking the door, Luca led the way back to the dining area.

As soon as we both made it past the first tables, loud gunshots sounded. Luca pushed me down, his enormous body crushing me. More shots flew through the window, and his torso jerked erratically.

“Are you okay?”

Luca’s eyes glazed over as his hand cupped my cheek, a small smile on his lips. “I’m—”

His eyes fluttered closed, and his body went limp on top of me.

“Luca!” I wrapped my arms around him, my fingers landing in hot, sticky liquid.

The squealing of tires, along with the shouts of the restaurantpatrons, were barely audible next to the buzzing in my ears as Luca’s breathing slowed to a stop.

SIXTEEN

“You’re fucking high if you think I’m not getting in the back of that ambulance, Marco!”

His jaw flexed as he stared me down. I kept my bloody hands from wiping away the tears that blurred my vision, but they still shook from anger, from fear, hell, from the desire towring Marco’s neck.

After the medics gently removed Luca from my body, they revived him and got him on a stretcher. All that was left was getting him to the hospital.

“You’re not his wife. You’re not family, so you’re not going, Red!”
