I shook my head with a laugh. “Nothing.”

His dark hair fell in his eyes as he handed me a plate and glass. “No. Clearly, something’s funny. What is it?”

“That was the most intense undressing I’ve ever seen.”

Luca studied his closet with a frown. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Okay, Luca.” I took a bite of the promised sandwich and, holy shit, was it was delicious.

Before he’d started the second half of his sandwich, mine was gone.

“Do you want it?” He tried to hand me his plate.

“I really shouldn’t.”

He shook it in my face. “Oh,come on.”

Snatching it before he could change his mind, I all but yelled, “Fine! I was trying to be polite.”

Laughing, he stood up and went into theensuite. The sink started running, and he came out with a toothbrush in his mouth. Pulling it out, he eyed the white foam as if he was willing it to stay on the bristles. “I have an extra toothbrush on the counter for you.”

Nibbling on the sandwich half, trying to make it last longer, I only nodded.

He went back to the bathroom, and I listened to his gargle.

When he came back all minty fresh, he hopped onto the bed. “I was thinking. Maybe we could do the Farmer’s Market tomorrow morning? I usually get my produce for the week there.”

Placing the plate on the serving tray, I stood up from the bed. “I guess? I’m not really a ‘farmer’s market’ kind of gal, but if the end result is delicious treats made by you, I’m in.”

While I brushed my teeth and made use of my small toiletry to-go bag, I heard Luca leave and come back to the room.

I patted myself on the back for getting my whole routine done in ten minutes. Wiping down the counters of the small mess I had made, I laughed. Luca was a total neat freak, but it made him so much more human.

Flipping off the light, I moved back to the bedroom.

The first thing I noticed was my dress was no longer on the floor but instead hung up in the closet. The food tray was gone, and the pillows straightened.

The most significant change was the huge Italian man passed out on top of the covers.

Straddling his hips, I kissed him deeply.

Nothing.

I pinched his nipple.

Nada.

I’d been emotionally vulnerable, yet I was still going to bed unsatisfied. Disappointed, I sighed and reluctantly pulled myself from his body.

And what an impressive bodyit was. Five stars. Would ogle again.

Rolling to the other side of the bed, I got under the duvet. That’s when Luca moved finally moved. He lifted his body to get under the covers, pulling them out from their neat tucks around the edges. Once under the sheets, his hard body pressed behind me as his arms pulled me closer.

Waiting for the usual cuddle awkwardness to set in, I held my breath.

Luca pulled me even closer and kissed my ear. In a sweet, sleepy voice, he whispered. “Goodnight, Sasha.”

I instantly relaxed. His warmth made me feel content, something I hadn’t experienced in a while, if ever. How could a person I’d only known for a couple of months make me feel so safe?
