Tilting his head, Luca waited for me to continue.

“You were planning on using the wedding to squash any beef—” Luca laughed, making me smile. “Shut up. I don’t know the mob lingo yet.” He chuckled and squeezed me closer to him. A lightness filled my chest as I felt Luca’s defenses crumble. “Like I was saying, you wereusing Zoe to bring peace between the families, a peace your dad wasn’t keen on. I assume he was working against you?”

“He was.”

“Well, he’s gone now—time to get your house in order,Mr.Bossman. Once everyone is in line, you can work out a real peace with Chronis, not some weird feudal shit. I’m sure you have business interests that would form a tighter bond than a sham marriage.”

“Who are you?” Luca’s eyes sparkled with admiration.

“The future Mrs.Bosslady.”

We both laughed, his chest shaking against mine, making my heart beat a touch faster.

“Are you sure you want to be a part of this world? Once you’re in, that’s it.”

I fought against the smile playing on my lips.

I had him.

“I’ll be honest with you. I don’t like the violence and will probably hate a lot of other things, but that pales in comparison to how much I love you. I’m here for good. Can you trust me enough to be honest with me? This doesn’t work without honesty.”

“I’ve never trusted anyone more.” He leaned down, placing a sweet kiss on my lips. “Okay. We’re doing this. Shit.” He vibrated with excited energy. “So,you’ll be my mafia queen?”

That did it. We fell into a fit of laughter.

“I just heard what I said. Jesus, that was lame.” Luca hugged me to him even tighter as we shook with laughter.

“You’re going to have to work on not being such a cornball if you’re going to run this shit.”

Luca pushed me back by the shoulders, his grip tight and his face set in a determined scowl. Too bad the corner of his mouth twitched. “I’m Luca Moretti. They don’t call me “The Butcher” for nothing.”

“The Butcher, huh?” I slinked closer, skimming my hand down the front of him.

A hum rumbled from his throat as his perfect white teeth sunk into his bottom lip. He ran his hands down my back, grabbing my ass roughly.

“I seem to remember there being talk of fantasies involving that desk over there.”

Luca’s lips tilted up. “The desk, the bed, that exerciseballover there.”

I cupped his growing length and gave a squeeze. A moan fell from both our mouths. “Where should we start?” I stood on my tiptoes, nibbling his neck.

“The—”

“Uncle Luca! Why’s the door locked? Is Sasha okay?” Dante’s sweet voice was an instant boner-killer.

“Shit.” Luca cursed into my hair. “Give us a second, kiddo.”

I gave Luca one more squeeze, earning myself a glare and shove away. Laughing, I went over and opened the door.

Dante looked up at me,relieved. He pulled his hands from behind his back, shoving an assortment of treats in my face. “I brought you some cookies and a brownie. I figured it might help you feel better.”

“Thank you, bud.” I glanced over at Luca, who had his back to us, muttering something to himself. “Why don’t we head downstairs and give your uncle a minute to collect himself.”

Dante nodded solemnly. “Mom said today is a hard day,and we have to make sure everyone has space.” He leaned around my body. “Uncle Luca, it’s okay to cry, and if you want to cry up here, that’s okay.”

It took everything in me to even respond to mini Dr. Phil.

“Let’s go find your mom.” Dante took my hand and we started down the hallway.
