"My old man married while I was away. She's my step-sister." He nodded his head towards her, the spark in him dead as he suspected he'd be turned away. Also feeling a tad bit 'creepy' for being buzzed while hanging around with an eighteen-year-old...

"Do you have someone I can call to verify?"

"M-my mom!" Julie insisted. "Um, she was Nancy Crawford. Now, Nancy King." She pulled her ID out of her purse and offered it to the lady.

"Mmh... number?"

"Uh..."

Chris watched as she fished her phone out of her other pocket, tapping about as she brought up her mom's contact info. She seemed rather eager to be of help, he found it endearing.

The woman called, there was an awkward moment as someone waiting behind them was summoned to another cashier, and their checkout person asked about him and his father with both the legitimate ID and expired ID before her.

Nancy Crawford described him quite accurately, right down to his denim pants and vest along with his black shirt. Then her daughter, likewise down to the clothing, and asked if anything was the matter.

"No. No problem, ma'am. Thank you." She hung up and rang the two bottles through, accepting the large-statured man's cash.

Chris accepted his two bottles of rum in paper bags and led the way out.

"Thanks for the help. Wasn't sure if she was gonna actually let me buy it." He shifted the two bottles to one hand, and opened up the back door of their cab for her.

"Oh, it's fine! No problem!" Julie replied happily as she scooched in, making room for him, and felt her phone vibrate in her pocket as he closed the rear passenger door behind him and buckled up.

What was that about?

Is everything ok?

Everything is alright.

He went to pick up something to drink.

ID expired...

Ahhh I see

Well I hope he doesn't get rowdy

"What's up?" Chris asked, seeing Julie busily typing away on her smartphone.

"Oh, nothing. Mom was a little worried because of the call."

"Ah, fair enough. You can go ahead and tell her that it was just the lady at the liquor store if you want. I'll get on the whole ID issue sorted tomorrow... and hey, don't forget to buckle up," he pointed out.

"Oh, right..." She put her phone down for a moment, "Sorry..."

"No problem," Chris nodded as he looked about through the rear passenger-side window. What a lovely first day out... couldn't be better.

I don’t think so, mom.

He took me out for a delicious meal.

He had a few drinks.

Actually started to open up.

He's pretty funny!

Oh? Well that's good!
