The way her entire being was so filled with compassion electrified him, but the rest of her words had him swallowing. “I see.”
“It’s a good plan, isn’t it?”
Support her. Love her. No matter what.
“Yes.”
“I knew it was a good plan. I have many good plans. Do you want to hear the next?”
“Sure.”
“To stay here. So that our baby comes out in a great environment.”
“That’s goo—what?”
His world stilled. Anne smiled.
“Our baby will be surrounded by the people we love…by the man I love. Our child will grow up here and understand that this place gave his or her mom a second chance. I’m not about to waste that chance, Nico. This is my home now.”
“Anne…”
“Oh.” Her smile blossomed into a grin. “I love you, too.”
Love swelled in his heart, so bright that he could only sit there bereft of speech. Then Nico engulfed her in a hug as their hands joined over her stomach before their lips met to seal the deal. The kiss went on and on, passion mixing with hunger, anticipation melding with that love. But neither was in a hurry to break the kiss, to announce the news to their loved ones, or to declare that they were each other’s mates.
They had all the time in the world for that later.
