“But you’ve never heard me talk about having a best friend or any friends for that matter. Why do you think I’m always available to hang out with you when you invite me to events with you and your friends or sisters?”

The more Corinne considered it, the more shocked she became.

“Awwww. I already consider us good friends. But if you want to be besties, you need to move to my city.”

Laughter rang out of their mouths, and Monica wagged a finger at Corinne.

“I’ve already considered moving to Chicago. I’m not that far as it is.”

“I was just kidding. What type of friend would I be if I made you move?”

“The type that plans on seeing me for luncheons on the weekend and setting me up with one of your husband's hot-ass friends.”

More pealing laughter spilled from them. “You know what? I might be able to make something happen. Xavier has no shortage of fine comrades. Obviously, they’re not close like him and his brothers, but still.”

“Shoot, it’s all good. I’ll test them out one by one and make sure one of them is right for me.”

“Monicaaaaaa!”

Monica shrugged. “What? At least I’m keeping it real.”

Corinne’s stomach hurt the more laughter built, roaring from her lips. “Per usual, I’m not mad at you for keeping it real.”

“Then hear me when I say this… and I know I have a habit of getting in your business, but since we’ve been talking about your business, I feel it’s okay for me to say this.”

“Would you just speak your mind or forever hold your peace!”

Monica chuckled. “Have your schedule redone. We’re getting older, not younger. Life will pass you by quickly, and you want all your memories to be filled with love and life with your husband. I’m sure he misses you just as much, if not more, than you miss him. He’s just too kind to admit it.” Monica shrugged. “Have fun, love a lot, and live your life on the wild side. Especially before he puts some babies up in you, cause honey, when you add children to the mix, your focus will be split. Right now, while you have the chance, don’t split your time between you and this job. This job isn’t going anywhere. Take your ass home to that sexy ass man.”

Corinne nodded. “Here you are, right yet again.”

Monica shrugged. “Trust me, I wish I could take my own advice, but be sure that when I find that special someone, I will.”

Xavier

“Imiss you.”

Xavier wrapped a towel around his waist, cradling the phone between his shoulder and ear.

“I miss you too,” Corinne said. “I hate that we keep missing each other’s calls.”

Xavier exhaled a breath. “Yeah, me too. Tell me you’re in your hotel room.”

“I’m in my hotel room.”

“Safe.”

“I’m safe, my love.”

Warmth settled over Xavier. “Did I tell you I miss you?”

Corinne’s soft laughter made his heart skip a beat. “Yes, you did.”

“Are you sure?”

“It was a few moments ago, actually.”
