“He stayed home nursing a hangover of epic proportions.”

“You two have a lover’s quarrel?” He rested his forearms on the desk and searched my eyes as if I had the answers.

Kicker was, I didn’t know what we were doing. Fighting? Making up? “We’re something.”

Whenever the Jasmine situation was brought up, Mitch got angry, and there was only so much sex I could give him to show him I loved him. But was that enough? All the answers were in the computer. Once Eric was out the door, readying for his first flight, and the outgoing passenger were gone, I’d be able to look without having to constantly check over my shoulder. It would be so simple. A couple of clicks and bam, I’d have the information I needed.

Eric straightened up and grabbed the print job. “Whatever you’re thinking about, stop it.”

I wanted to chuckle, but I also wanted to cry and throw something, so I just stood there, hands clenched around the sides of the keyboard.

“Mitch loves you. Very much.”

I shrugged.

“He’d never intentionally hurt you.”

“It’s not the intentional part I’m worried about. It’s the secrets and lies that bother me most.” On the edge of my voice there was a crack. A crack that threatened to turn into a deep crevasse if I didn’t watch myself and find something else to discuss.

Eric leaned over and squeezed my shoulders. “We’ll talk when I get back. Why don’t you come over tonight? You can meet the baby.”

“Do we get to know his name?”

“Come over and find out.” A large grin plastered itself on his face.

“Lily won’t mind?”

“Probably not.”

“Maybe you should check with her first?” I wasn’t so sure I’d want a bunch of people just showing up at my place. Even ifthey came with bags of gifts like I was going to do.

“I’ll ask between flights.” He folded the paper. “See you in a bit.”

Eric exited the building and walked out onto the tarmac.

The older mechanic, Billy, sauntered over to the pilot.

I was all alone.

Until the passengers filed in, one at a time. Perfectly paced so I wasn’t alone long enough to search for the truth. Eventually, I got everyone processed and escorted out to their flights.

Once again, the building was vacated. No scheduled flights for another couple of hours. The inside part of the building was empty and the space echoey. If a pin dropped, I would have heard it. My gaze darted around, checking the door from the parking lot, the door going out to the tarmac, and the one leading to the garage on the other side. All closed. It was just me in the building.

I clicked away on the computer, my gut gnawing at me that even though I had a right to know the truth, what I was doing was wrong. Like illegal wrong.

Jasmine’s flight popped up. Nothing I wasn’t allowed to check. That information was needed for security.

Again, I darted my focus around the room and stretched out my hearing for anything unusual. All was silent, aside from the pounding of my racing heart and the blood rushing through my veins, way louder than any music playing on the radio.

Click. Click.

There was part of the information I sought. Her full name, and that of her son’s. Last name Coolidge. Again, perfectly legal.

My cursor hovered above her name. One click, and I’d get to see it all. Date of birth, address, everything. My finger poised over the left clicker. I could do this. I needed this. But I neededthe son’s information more. If I was going to see anything, that should be it.

I repositioned the cursor over his name.

And clicked.
