“Why didn'tyoutell me?” Sure, they had their problems, but she knew he loved her, so why hadn’t she told him about Marcus King?

“Why would I?” Anger wiped away some of the fear in her face. “You have made itveryclear that you are no longer interested in me. I get that you still have lingering feelings, we both do, but you said it’s over and I accept that. That means my life is no longer your concern. Marcus King, my injuries from the accident—neither of those has anything to do with you. We’re not together. You got what you wanted, so let it go. Let me go. You can't have it both ways.”

Fin hated that she was right.

“We have a problem,” Tom announced, joining them.

“What?” Chloe asked.

“Harley is out on bail.”

“What?” Chloe said again, this time shocked.

“He’s still claiming that he didn't know we were FBI agents when he shot at me and drove his car at you.”

“You identified yourself,” Chloe said.

“I know, and we’ll prove that when this gets to court. But we have no evidence that he’s The Breaker—”

“That’s why Taylor is here,” Chloe interrupted, clearly frustrated.

“I know, but somehow his lawyer got him out already. Harley Zabkar is free until this goes to court or we get some evidence.”

“What?” Taylor’s shrill voice demanded.

2:27 P.M.

Did she hear that right?

Taylor was sure she must have misheard.

Did the FBI agents really just say that the man they thought had kidnapped her, held her prisoner for nineteen months and broke her bones was still out there?

But they’d had him.

That’s why she was here so she could identify him, and they could officially charge him with the crimes.

Only, now he wasn't here.

They had lost him.

What was wrong with them?

Weren’t they the FBI?

Wasn't catching bad guys their job?

So, why had he left?

The pretty brunette. Special Agent Chloe Luckman.Shehad to be the reason that the man who had hurt her had gotten away. Because the stupid woman wanted Fin.

But Fin was hers now.

And it was the agent’s job to catch the man who hurt her, but she’d been too busy scheming and plotting to get back a man who didn't belong to her to do her job.

That was unacceptable.
