Her inner walls constrict and squeeze as she screams her release, and I roar my own as my hips jerk with every current shooting through my cock, my fingers digging into her thighs as I pull her over me one last time, burying deep, riding the waves of endorphins with gasps.

“Oh, wow,” Lauren pants with a rueful laugh. “And I thought yesterday was good.”

I laugh into her neck. “I’m just happy I wasn’t the only one distracted all day.”

“Had to change my panties twice,” she informs with a satisfied grin.

“Third time’s the charm?” I flash her a grin of my own, indicating the ripped blue fabric on the floor.

“Jesus, we didn’t even get properly naked.” She shakes her head. “Like animals.”

I weave my fingers into her hair and pull her to me, pushing my tongue through her lips and deep into her mouth until she’s moaning.

“You’re going to experience a lot of animalistic fucking, Rockstar.” I brush my lips against hers. “Deep, hard, primal fucking by a man who can’t get enough of you screaming his name.”

Her bright eyes meet mine, full of hunger, and she clutches my shirt, pulling me close. “You and your words,” she says against my lips before molding our mouths together in a scorching kiss.

I pull back when something dings, and Lauren groans in frustration.

“The food?” I ask.

“Yeah, I made eggplant lasagna.”

“It smells amazing.” My eyes move between her thighs still squeezing my middle, to the direction of the oven. I haven’t eaten all day, but I alsoreallywant to get naked with Lauren.

“Hmm.” Lauren’s amused hum has my eyes returning to her, that hooded gaze tipping the scale right toward naked time. “Food, then dessert in the shower?”

“Or, dessert right now, then food, then more dessert in the shower?” I offer. “Then, some more in bed?”

“Greedy, are we?” Lauren laughs.

“Yes. Absolutely.”

“Michael…” She sighs with satisfaction and laughs again.

“Are you happy, Lore?” The question is random, pushed out by the swell in my chest, the need to know as strong as the beat of my heart.

“Yeah.” She nods. “You?”

“I just had crazy good sex and am about to eat crazy good food, all with this crazy gorgeous woman who I can just be myself with, so yes, Lore, right now I’m happy.”

“You and your words.” She plants a soft kiss on my lips before jumping off the breakfast counter, then turns off the oven before pulling her shorts back up. Grabbing disinfecting wipes, she next wipes down the surface of the countertop before washing her hands in the sink, huffing in irritation when I shove my hands over hers under the water.

“Michael,” she warns when I hip-bump her, enjoying how it gets a rise out of her.

“I missed you today.”

“I missed you, too.” She smiles with warmth. “Set the table, please. I’ll get the food.”

We move around each other with a synchronized rhythm, laughing and talking about our day as if we’ve been doing it for years.

It isn’t until later that night, when Lauren is sleeping soundly next to me, that I realize this might be the first day I wasn’t just pretending to be happy since Naomi died.

In fact, I hadn’t thought about her even once today because I was too busy thinking about Lauren.

And I can’t stop the sense of dread spreading through my veins when it dawns on me that, for the first time in a very long time, Iforgotabout Naomi.
