He took her shoulders and stopped her movement. “You want two kids?”
She smiled. “Yes, we both do. Actually, we’ve talked about a houseful of them.”
“Then relax. Go, do whatever you gotta do. I’ll take the volleyball game. I got your back.” He leaned in and hugged her, only then realizing he was still a little wet. “Sorry.” He pulled back.
“Thanks, Damion. You’re the best,” she called out as she headed towards the parking lot. “Don’t tell anyone… just yet.”
“I won’t,” he promised. But when he turned to go, Jules was standing there smiling at him.
“Tell me,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Nope.” He shook his head. “I just promised…”
“You didn’t promise. You just said, I won’t. That’s not a promise. So…” She waved her hand towards him. “Spill.”
He sighed. Just seeing the look in her eyes, he understood there was no way he was going to get out of telling Zoey’s secret to her.
“Fine, but we have to walk as we gossip. I’ve got a volleyball game to oversee.” He took her hand in his and headed towards the beach area.
After dishing out the scoop on Zoey’s possible family expansion, Jules informed him that she was on her lunch break and agreed to head up and grab them both sandwiches that they could eat while he oversaw the volleyball game.
They were missing a few people, but the game was more exciting than the last few ones he’d refereed. The group of guests were younger, and they all seemed to know each other.
Between games, he wolfed down the sandwich while Jules sat and watched the game from the shade of a palm tree. When he looked again, she’d gone, most likely back inside to work.
After he was done with the game, he walked into the water and cooled off again before heading to the gym to spot a few customers and enjoy a workout himself. After hitting the showers in the locker rooms he changed into his outfit for the evening sail.
Before making it to the boathouse, he stopped off and figured he’d flirt with Jules for a while.
She was busy on the phone when he leaned against the counter. There was a slight frown on her lips and a little line between her eyebrows she always got when she was upset.
He only heard the last part of the phone call, but it didn’t sound like it was anything that should have upset her.
“What’s wrong?” he asked the moment she hung up.
“You know that guy from last night?” she said as she leaned on the counter.
“Is he bothering you?” he asked, motioning to the phone.
“No, that was…another guest. But he did corner me as I was leaving the beach.”
Damion stood up straight. “I’ll—”
Jules reached across and took his hand.
“Do nothing about it. I’ve already told Elle and Brett. He’s going to have his new guy, Aaron, check in on me and maybe walk me to my car each night until the guy is gone.”
“I’ll walk you to your car each night,” he jumped in.
“You’ll be out on your cruise when I get off work,” she reminded him. “Aaron can do it, or Brett said he would himself. But you can spend my lunches with me and meet me in the morning if you want.” She leaned on her elbows. “If you think you’re up to the task?”
He moved behind the counter and wrapped his arms around her. “I am,” he said into her hair. “I should have punched the guy out first thing.”
“No, you shouldn’t have. We’ll deal with it. Besides, they aren’t going to give him another warning. Next time he bugs me, they’re cancelling the rest of his and his wife’s time here.” She leaned up and kissed him. “Don’t you have a sail you’re supposed to go on soon?”
“Yeah.” He sighed and thought about getting someone else to cover for him.
“Go, I’ll be okay.” She nudged his shoulder. “I still have an hour before I head home. Besides, I want to go and pack for our trip tomorrow. Are we still leaving at eight in the morning?”
