He thought about denying her, then thought about what Jade would do and stepped behind the bar and mixed her another drink.
“What’s your deal?” she asked him as he worked. “Someone like you can’t be camera shy. You’re far too good-looking.”
“Thanks. I think,” he said over his shoulder. He thought about lying to her about it being a resort policy but understood that she would know better.
“Are you in witness protection or something?” she joked.
He chuckled as he set her drink down. “Something like that.”
She waited, her drink in her hands. “Well?”
“My dad… doesn’t know what I do for a living. I’d like to keep it that way,” he answered. It was half true. His father knew he worked for the FBI. He even knew what department. What he didn’t know is that Wyatt was currently on a job in the Bahamas playing bartender.
“I can understand that,” Arlene said, smirking. “But I have promised my viewers a view.” She wiggled her eyebrows. “And I always deliver what I promise.”
He sighed. “Just make it… later. I hear you’re here for an entire month, right?”
She nodded and the spark in her eyes doubled. “You asked about me?”
“Not really. My… involvement is with Jade,” he said.
Arlene’s eyebrows shot up. “Jade? My Jade?” Then she laughed.
“What’s funny about that?” he asked, frowning.
“Oh nothing. I’m just… impressed.” She ran her eyes over him. “I hadn’t pegged you for her type.”
“Oh?” He leaned on the counter. “Just what is Jade’s type?”
Arlene leaned against the counter and answered.
“Geeks. Lawyers. Men in suits. Men who wear pocket protectors. Men who…” Her eyes moved over him again and she let out a soft moan. “Don’t look like you.”
“Thanks. Again. I think,” he said with a laugh.
After his chat with Arlene, he wondered why Jade and Josie took any issue with her. Then again, he knew that women tended to act differently around other people. Especially women like Arlene. It was obvious from the way she treated Jade that she treated people with wealth and power much better than she treated anyone else. He figured that difference extended to, as she called him, a tall drink of sex appeal.
As he walked back to his bungalow, he glanced up at the top floor where Jade’s suite was. The hanging fairy lights were on on the patio, and he could just imagine the two friends out there enjoying the pool while catching up.
When he laid down in bed, he could still smell Jade since he only had the room cleaned once a week. Rolling over, he held the pillow against his face and took a big whiff of her sexy scent. After a few deep breaths, he rolled over and grabbed his phone.
He didn’t care if she wouldn’t read his message until later, but he had to tell her once more how much he’d admired that sexy black dress she’d worn. He was one hundred percent sure it had been just for him.
He sent the text message telling her how amazing she looked and how much he missed her in his bed, then rolled back over and fell asleep quickly.
He woke to his phone chiming, then ringing, before he could locate it under one of the pillows.
“Hello?” he answered, half awake.
“Wyatt? I think you’d better come to my office. We have a missing teen from last night,” Jade said quickly.
He jolted up and blinked a few times. “A…”
“One of the teenagers from last night didn’t return to her room,” Jade said.
He jumped from the bed and pulled on a pair of shorts. “I’ll be right there.” He hung up and as he quickly brushed his teeth, he called Jamerson.
“We have movement. I’ll keep you posted,” he said quickly when he got her voicemail and hung up.
