I know we need to talk about this, but the fact that she kisses me back seems very promising.
“I have practice. I’m so sorry. Last night was amazing. We’ll talk later, okay?” I tell her.
She nods. I think she may look disappointed. “Okay. Good luck.”
And I sprint out the door.
All I can think about is Priya as I get ready in the locker room.
I had no idea that she had any romantic feelings for me whatsoever until she kissed me last night.
And now it’s all that I can think about.
I’m going to ask her out.
That’s it.
I mean, consequences be damned. The line has been crossed. And I’m ready to go there with her.
I run out on the field, feeling way more prepared today than I did yesterday.
I’m exhilarated.
I’m on a high from my night with Priya.
And not even Rayn Trist can get me down.

Coach decides that he wants to see what my arm looks like, so he puts me in for some drills.
The center hikes the ball to me.
I scan the field.
Rayn is wide open.
I ignore it.
Instead, I throw it to the wide receiver in traffic. He makes the catch.
Coach says it’s good and asks us to line up again.
The center hikes the ball to me again.
I scan the field again.
Once more, Rayn is wide open.
I should throw it to him; I know.
If I keep ignoring him, Coach will notice.
Luckily, there’s another receiver who is also wide open. I throw it to him instead and he makes the catch.
We repeat this drill about four more times.
And I never throw it to Rayn once.
