"Don't look so betrayed," Mav said, watching me with amusement. "I'll be back for you in the morning. Why don't you get our girl cleaned up, Void?"

"You don't give me orders," God of the Void—or Void, apparently—replied in a scary calm voice.

Chills swept down my arms. I pulled my knees to my chest—and made a face when cum gushed out of me thanks to the new position.

"Just a suggestion," Mav replied with a grin, not at all afraid of the bigger, scarier man unlike me. He clapped Void on the shoulder and squeezed past him out the door. "Have fun, cutie."

My mouth fell open. "You can't leave me here like this!"

"Don't worry, Void's gonna takegoodcare of you."

They exchanged a secret look, and I glared, wanting to know what they were communicating. Clearly it was about me.

I rushed off the bed, covering my nakedness as best as I could, meaning to follow Mav into the hall and give him a piece of my mind, but Void stepped into his bedroom and closed the door before I could.

"Um."

"Do not move," Void commanded in a raspy voice that made my whole body lock up.

I didn't dare move an inch as he started across the room towards me.

My breath shuddered and broke apart as Void slowly crossed the room, his eyes running across every part of me. My heart slammed against my ribs as I secretly calculated my chances of lunging past him towards the door.

"You can try," Void said, easily reading my intention. "And you will fail. Drop your hands."

I squeaked, backing up a step.

His mouth pressed thin. "If I have to do it myself, you won't enjoy it."

Air scraped up my throat in rough pants. "Please," I breathed.

"I told you in the basement," Void replied, closing the last bit of distance between us, "pleas don't work on me."

He gripped my wrists and dragged my arms away from my body, baring me completely to him. My hands shook as he stared, devouring me with dark, endless eyes.

I stared into those eyes, fellinto them, and only jolted out of the trance when cruel fingers twisted my right nipple, sending pain shooting through my chest—followed by growing heat. Void marked my reaction, watched my face flash hot, and pulled harder on my nipple until my cry came out louder.

"He marked you," Void remarked, tilting my head to the side with a cold hand, the fingers of his other pinching my hard nipple. "That's curious. I was under the impression Maverick hated you."

"Ah—I'm sorry," I breathed, a shaky weakness starting in my knees. "I'm sorry."

"No," Void argued, stern enough to make me jump even if he didn’t raise his voice. "Don't be so skittish; I'm not going to kill you. Only hurt you a little." His black eyes gleamed, meeting my panicked stare. "I like hurting girls like you."

I whimpered, looking beyond him at the door. I could run. I could.

"I saw what you did," Void said, his thumb stroking over my thrumming pulse point. "All the monsters you've killed. All the blood on your hands. I think you like hurting people too, lonely girl."

I swallowed. He'd seen … all of it? All my kills? My eyes bulged, my mind racing.

"I'd say you love it, in fact," he went on, taking a step and forcing me to concede one, and then taking another and another until I yelped when freezing cold glass pressed into my ass. "Is it the control you need? Or the power rush? It's a beautiful thing, taking a life. The spill of blood; the way bones bend and cave in; those final, choking breaths. I've killed every one of my enemies, and there's no greater satisfaction."

"I want to kill my enemies, too," I said without meaning to.

My enemies were still out there, hunting for me. They'd hurt me when they caught me.

"Maybe I'll bring their heads to you," Void said, deadly serious, pressing my whole body to the window and aligning his own against mine, expensive silk and cotton to bare, tingling skin. "All you need to do is tell me what happened to Vann."
