"Okay. So years ago—"

"Oh my gosh." Her face went white.

"What?" I said to her. "What is it?"

"Don't tell me you got pregnant, and you gave up the baby, and you didn't tell me."

"No," I said. "Really, Rosalie? How would you not have noticed that I was pregnant?"

"Well, maybe you weren't showing that much."

I stared at her. "You need to stop watching Lifetime movies."

"I know." She giggled. "Okay. Tell me. What is it?"

"Years ago"—I held my hand up—"and please don't interrupt me till I'm finished."

She pressed her lips together and nodded.

"Years ago, I snuck out, and I went to a party."

"You what? You never told me that."

"I know. That's the whole point of the story. You never knew. And remember, don't interrupt me."

"Sorry, Alice."

"It's fine. Anyway, it was a college party."

"Ooh." She pressed her hand to her mouth. "Sorry, I'll be quiet."

"Thank you," I said again. "Anyway, Foster was there. Yes, Foster, your brother." Rosalie's eyes widened, but she didn't say anything. "And yes, I kind of went because I wanted to see him because I had a crush on him, which I know you most probably kind of thought I had a little bit of one, but I kind of had a major one."

Rosalie was gagging to say something, but I smiled, and she kept her mouth shut. "Anyway, your brother was flirting with someone else and was kind of annoyed, I guess, that I was there, and he was basically telling me to leave. But I didn't. I started flirting with like a whole bunch of guys, and I was drinking a bunch of alcohol and I got drunk. And there was this one guy who took me to one of the bedrooms."

Rosalie's eyes looked shocked.

"And he kind of, maybe, slipped me a roofie that I didn't know about, obviously, and we were on the bed."

"Oh my gosh, Alice, what?" Rosalie burst out. "I'm sorry. I just cannot keep quiet. What happened?"

"I'm trying to tell you," I said. "Anyway, nothing happened. I don't know what might have happened. He was attempting to put his hands on me and probably try to sleep with me."

"He tried to rape you?" Her voice lowered. "Oh my God."

"No, he didn't get that far because Foster burst into the room, and he stopped it. He kind of beat up the guy, and he was like my savior, you know?"

"Oh my God. Thank God for my brother," she said, shaking her head. "So nothing happened? You were okay?"

"Nothing happened," I said. "I promise, I was fine."

"Oh my gosh, I will kill you, Alice. How could you—"

"That's not the end of the story," I said.

"Okay. So then what happened next? Why didn't Foster tell me? Why didn't you tell me?"

I groaned. "Rosalie, please, let me finish."
