"I mean, we can go to my office if you really want that. But you haven't answered one thing, Alice."
"What's that, Foster?"
"Is it okay if we tell HR that we are serious and in a committed relationship?"
"I don't know," I said, smiling softly. "Is it?"
"I mean, I'm asking you," he said with a wry expression.
"I mean, are you asking me if I want to be your girlfriend?"
"No," he said, shaking his head.
"Oh" I said quickly, blushing, feeling embarrassed and slightly hurt. "Sorry, I thought..."
"No, there's nothing to be sorry about." He grinned at me. I watched as he pulled out a small box from his pocket, and my heart started thudding. "I'm not asking if you want to be my girlfriend, Alice. I'm asking you if you want to be my fiancée and, hopefully one day soon, my wife."
I stared at him in shock, my heart racing as tears streamed down my face. "Is this for real?" I said.
"Yes. Will you marry me, Alice? Will you make me the happiest man in the world?"
"I will. Oh my gosh, Foster, I will. I love you so much. I cannot believe this." And then I paused. "Wait."
"Oh no. What is it? Please don't tell me Babs or Amelia or some other rando has tried to say something to you."
"No. I was just wondering… are you proposing because of the job or are you proposing because you really want to be with me? I mean, I know you didn't take the job in Brazil because—”
"Oh my gosh, Alice." He laughed as he pulled me to him and kissed me on the lips. "I'm proposing because I love you and want you to be my wife. I want us to make love again, and I want to ravish you and let the world know you're mine. I know we were going to take it slow, but I don't want to take it slow anymore. I just want to live my life with you. I just want to tell the world that you're mine, and we're together."
"I love you, Foster Sloane. And I want the world to know you are my everything."
"And you, my darling, are more than that to me. You are the future I never knew existed."

Mr. Not Quite Perfect Teaser
ChapterOne
The sound of the Beach Boys singing about going to Aruba and Jamaica played in the '80s-themed restaurant I found myself sitting in. I sat there, slightly uncomfortable, playing with my hair, wondering if I'd made a mistake. I was about to get up and leave when a deep voice sounded next to me.
"Hi, there, ma'am," he said in a sultry tone, making my legs tingle. "Can I have the seat next to you?"
I swallowed hard and looked up. There he was, Travis Covington. His bright blue eyes stared at me with mischief. His dark hair looked silky and smooth and I nodded, feeling turned on and extremely nervous.
"Sure," I said, turning away from him and using my finger to push the straw around in my Sprite. I wasn’t yet ready for alcohol. I wanted to be fully alert for the game we were about to play.
"What are you drinking?" he said, as he sat next to me facing the bar. His eyes gazed down at the opaque glass, as it bubbled and fizzed.
"Just a..." I bit down on my lower lip, slightly embarrassed and looked back over at him. "I don't know that I can do this," I said with a small smile, wrinkling my nose, feeling more self-conscious than I ever had in my life.
"Do what?" he said, his brow furrowed as he stared at me. His aquiline nose stood proud in his too handsome face and my stomach purred as his eyes ate me up, surveying me, trying to read my mind.
