“So what,” I grunt, licking her throat.

“Devil.”

“You know it. God, you taste sweeter than I remember. I wonder if your pussy is just as sweet.” She clenches her thighs, getting worked up. I chuckle because her hatred is only a mask for her fear of our passion between us.

“I hate you,” she hisses.

“I think you’re lying.” I wink and pat her ass. “Go get ready now. I don’t want to wait anymore. I need to get you out of this shitty place.”

“Shitty?”

“Yes.” She’s actually offended that I called her apartment shitty, but it’s nothing compared to where she should be living. Two months of her in a bed that isn’t my own irritates me insanely. This bed that I didn’t buy her.

“You deserve better than this place. It’s not good enough for you.”

“That’s what Maxim said too.”

“Don’t bring another man’s name up in front of me again. Especially a man you let fucking take care of you.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me, Candy. You’re mine, which means that I take care of you, not anyone else.” Raging jealousy fills me with the idea that he has taken my place. He’s fucking lucky that he only did it to make his wife happy because if he had any interest in my Candy, he’d be a dead man.

Chapter Eleven

Candy

He hasn’t taken his eyes off me since we slid into the backseat of the SUV. It’s as if he’s waiting for me to run, which is smart because I can’t say I’m not tempted to make a run for it. He’s a mobster, and it makes sense why my mother told me to take Plan B, but how did she get back in the trailer after I left? As much as I hated her for what she did, I hope she didn’t suffer.

“Did you have your men kill my mother?” I almost want to clap my hand over my mouth the second the words are out, but it’s too late. Still, he doesn’t hesitate to answer.

“I had nothing to do with that.”

He expects me to believe that bullshit. “I saw a black SUV drive into the trailer park that morning.”

“I know. That’s what the bum told me when I questioned him, but it wasn’t me. I’d been sleeping, thinking you were still in bed. I’d been very mistaken about that, hadn’t I?” He’s rubbing it in that I left.

“So black SUVs and thugs go hand in hand, then?” I ask, sounding bitchy even to myself as I stare out the window. The driver does his best to hold back a laugh.

“Yes, we corner the market,” Sebastian answers drolly. His hand rests over one of mine, giving it a squeeze.

With a huff, I look at him in confusion. “I don’t understand this.”

“You were set up, just like me. Although, it wasn’t supposed to play out the way it did. I was supposed to learn of your treachery and kill you and be charged with all of your murders.” I swallow hard, trying to drag my hand out of his, but he’s not budging. “I said I wasn’t going to, dulce. Last week, an attempt was made on my life. They failed miserably, but all of it makes sense now.”

“I don’t understand any of this.” I wave my hand between the two of us. He should want me dead, and I should be running for my life, and yet, I want to throw myself back in his arms and beg to be on my knees again.

“What’s there to understand? You’re mine, and I’m going to deal with the people that wanted to end us. End of story.”

“I’m just supposed to trust you?”

“I don’t give a fuck if you do or not. Eventually, you’ll see things my way.” I pull my hand from his. I smile, thinking I won, but he snatches it back. “Don’t test me, Candy, or I’ll take you over my knee and spank that ass. I’ve been generous with you.”

“Generous? I suppose paying ten thousand dollars for my virginity is a hell of a price.”

“Ten thousand?” he barks out, almost choking on his works.

“Yes. You don’t know how much your brother gave me?”
