He tilts his head. “Clever. Am I that obvious?”
I shrug. “You have the tattoo.” I nod at his arm, where the Devil’s Alpha MC tattoo of a wolf’s head and snakes coming out of is prominent.
“Good spot.” He cracks his neck. “I stole you for a business partner, Massimo Morrone.”
I swallow hard, wondering if Thiago and Enzo know anything about this. “What about my brothers?”
He arches a brow. “What about them?”
“I heard they’re staying with the Morrone family.”
His eyes narrow. “Where did you hear that?”
“I spoke with my sister a few days ago.”
He cracks his knuckles. “I see. I need to ascertain where your loyalties lie, Eliza.”
I arch a brow. “Where they lie? Are you serious?”
“Yes, are you Adrik’s little pet, or are you still loyal to your family?”
I swallow hard as I think about the baby growing inside of me. Adrik’s child. Not to mention, lately I’ve been having feelings I can’t explain when I’m with Adrik. As if he’s somehow managed to sink under my skin and penetrate those walls I tried to keep around my heart.
He’s troubled and down right heartless, but there’s something connecting me to him. I don’t know how to explain it.
“My family,” I say, knowing that’s the answer he wants to hear.
“No doubt Adrik Volkov hasn’t treated you well?”
I shake my head. “He’s treated me like a prisoner.” I swallow hard. “Taken everything from me.” The only way I’m going to get out of this alive is to play along with this man, no matter what he expects from me.
He nods. “I see, but are you willing to lure Adrik to his death?”
Death.
I swallow hard, searching for the answer inside of me. There’s no doubt after everything he’s done that I should want him dead. He forced me down the aisle and shot papá dead without a second thought. And he even took my innocence by force and without consent on our wedding night.
The man is evil to the core. A monster with no heart, and yet as I’ve got to know more about him, and the reasons for his behavior, I’ve imagined a life that’s not so terrible with him.
A life with our baby.
“To his death?” I confirm.
The man nods. “Yes, will that be a problem?”
I shake my head, even though deep down I’m not sure I can watch him die, despite everything. “No.”
He smirks. “Perfect. I’ll fetch Massimo so he can explain what we need of you.” He walks toward the door of the dark, dank room. “Hawk, keep our guest company while I’m gone.”
The same huge, tattooed man enters the room and smirks at me. “We meet again.”
I swallow hard, as this guy gives me the creeps. “Yeah, is there any reason I’m tied up when we’re on the same side?”
He arches a brow. “You still need to prove yourself, sweetie. Until then, you’ll remain tied to that chair.” A callous smirk spreads onto his lips. “I do love women tied up.” He winks, and it sends a shiver down my spine.
I feel utterly torn as I wait for the other guy to return, knowing that if I lure Adrik into their trap, he’ll die. It’s what I should want, but deep down I can’t imagine being the reason he’s dead. The reason my baby’s father is no longer breathing.
“Who was that guy?” I ask.
