“Are you sure you’re feeling up to it?”

“After this weekend, I feel like I could run a marathon.”

I smiled at his confidence, but I knew he was exhausted. “Fine, but no overdoing it. You have your check-up this morning.”

Liam grinned mischievously at his grandson. “We’ll behave, wont we, Adam?”

“Don’t I always?” Adam’s playful tone clashed with the twitch of his jaw.

I stepped back to give Adam space to assist his grandfather. “I’ll check in with Mrs. Fredrich while Adam takes you to watch the show. Should I tell Max to bring you both breakfast in the dining room?”

“Won’t you be joining us?” Liam asked, gaining another line between his eyes.

“Of course she will.” Adam tilted his head my way. “Unless you have a better option?”

I threw daggers into his piercing blue eyes. “Of course. I just have to do a few things first.”

“Superb!” Liam panned his gaze between us and smiled. “Breakfast with two of my favorite people.”

Not wanting to ruin Liam’s good mood with my disdain for his grandson, I offered a curt nod before scurrying out of the room, seething with rage.

“Good morning, Cassidy,” a happy voice greeted from the bedroom across the hall.

My anger dissipated immediately. “Nora! You’re back early!”

Mrs. Fredrich brushed past, barely taking a moment to say goodbye as she zoomed down the corridor.

“I figured since Mrs Fredrich missed Thanksgiving with her kids, I’d get back a little earlier.”

My eyes bulged. “Mrs. Fredrich has kids?”

“Well, I think so. Or was it cats?” Nora shrugged. “Who knows?”

“She definitely keeps to herself.”No matter how many times I’d attempted conversation.“So, how was your Thanksgiving?”

“Amazing. I think I topped my sister’s pumpkin pie this year.” Her joy filtered through me, giving me the boost I needed. “How was everything here?”

“Liam had a wonderful weekend.”

“And you?”

I lifted my shoulders and dropped them, like my eleven-year-old. “It was okay.”

Nora pressed her lips together. “You need to get out of here on the weekends, girl. You’re going to go crazy.”

“I get out.”

“And not to the beach.” She placed her hand on her hip. “I’m talking clubs and bars. You’re young and beautiful. I’m sure you’ll find several men who’d love to keep you well and truly occupied on your weekends off.”

I scoffed. “I don’t think so. The last guy I picked up at a bar turned into a nightmare.”

“Then agree to that date with Marc. I bet he could show you a good time.”

I closed my eyes with a grimace. “I knew I shouldn’t have told you about that.”

“Come on, what’s stopping you?”

“I don’t want things to be weird around here.” I wandered over to Liam’s medicine cart and ran my finger over the bottles. “Plus, I’ve already said no.”
