After midnight, the obnoxious sound of drunken laughter announced Grayson and Adam’s return. Their singing grew louder with each step of the grand staircase and divided in two as they parted ways.
Adam’s humming morphed into a hiss as he knocked something off the hallway table. “Whoops,” he mumbled, stumbling closer to our rooms.
I listened for his door to close, but only silence followed.Where did he go?
A clumsy tap sounded at my door. “Cassssidy…”
My fingers froze as I turned the page of my novel.Shit.
“Come on, Cass…I know you’re reading. I can see the light under the door.”
With a growl, I reached over to my nightstand and switched off my lamp.
“I’m not leaving until you speak to me.”
With a deep sigh, I climbed out of bed, slipped on my robe, and whipped the door open. I raised my brow at his heavily glazed eyes. He’d clearly had more than a few drinks.
“Hey.” He stumbled back in surprise.
“It’s late, Adam, and I’m not on the clock. If Liam doesn’t need me, then you have no reason to be knocking at my door.”
He raised his arm on the door frame and leaned forward. “But what if I need you?”
“Goodnight, Adam,” I grumbled before grasping the door handle.
Adam pressed his hand against the closing door. “Don’t freeze me out, Cass.”
“I…” I lowered my voice. “I’m not freezing you out. I’m…reinstating our boundaries.”
“Fuck boundaries.” He stepped closer. “I want you in my bed.”
“And turning up at my door, reeking of whiskey, was your plan to woo me there?” I stared up into his gorgeous blue eyes. “That may work on other girls, but it will never work on me.”
Adam’s eyes rolled over my silk-covered body. “Romance isn’t my style, Cass. You know that.”
“And you’d fuck a different girl every night to prove it.”
His furrowed gaze lifted to mine. “The only girl I’ve fucked lately is you.”
“And I’m supposed to believe that.” My eyebrows raised as I crossed my arms.
He grasped my upper arm as his eyes pierced mine. “Nothing happened with Staci.”
“So, you’ve never fucked her?” I asked, curious to see if he’d deny it.
His gaze faltered. “Well, no…but it was years ago.”
I shrugged him off, needing the conversation to end. “Look, who you date…orfuck—is none of my business.”
“Then why do you sound so fucking jealous?”
My mouth dropped. “Jealous?!”
“Easy, Tiger. You’re turning green.”
“You’re unbelievable,” I muttered as I slammed the door in his face.
“You would know…” Adam sang out before a loud thud sounded against the door. “I’m not going to bed without you, Cassidy.”
