“Adam…it’s freezing!”

“Come on, just our feet,” he said right before the water rushed over his toes. “Fuck!”

With a laugh, I jumped back before it hit me, too. “I told you!”

“Cass, trust me, you’re going to need your energy tonight.”

My gaze tapered. “Why?”

“Why do you think?” His sexy grin grew closer.

My mouth parted at the unspoken suggestion.

“So you can keep up with me on the dance floor, of course,” he continued with a laugh.

“Oh.” My shoulders lowered, equally relieved and disappointed.

“What did you think I meant?”

My eyes turned into slits as I backstepped toward the party. “Enjoy your swim, Adam. I’m heading back to congratulate the happy couple.”

As I turned and marched up the sand, Adam picked up his shoes and his pace.

“Looks like I’ll have to get you wet another way,” he uttered on his way past.

As my jaw dropped and my temper flared, Adam quickened his steps to the bride.

“Adam!” Melanie threw her arms around him.

“Smelly!” He returned her embrace. “Congratulations! You look gorgeous as always.”

Melanie spotted me over his shoulder and pushed him aside. “And you must be Cassidy.”

I reached out my hand, but she pulled me in for a hug. “Thank you for everything you’re doing for Gramps. Gray says he’s doing really well.”

“Liam’s a fighter. He won’t give up easily, and neither will I.”

She smirked at Adam. “Sounds like the Harlows are in good hands.”

Adam narrowed his gaze at her before moving to congratulate Scott a few feet away.

“It really was a beautiful ceremony,” I said, smiling as Melanie rubbed her stomach. “And congratulations on the impending arrival.”

“Thank you…and thank you.” The apples of her cheeks rose as she peered down at her belly. “We’re over the moon right now.”

“After all you’ve been through, you deserve every happiness.”

She studied me with a bemused expression. “Do you and your sister share the same…abilities?”

“Not exactly. I can’t see the future, but I can feel energies. Good and bad.”

Her eyebrows rose. “And you have to hang out with Adam? I’m so sorry.”

Laughter burst from my lips.

Adam returned to my side. “What’s so funny?”

“Oh, nothing.” I ran my hand over my mouth to smother my smile.
