She screwed up her nose. “No, of course not. I haven’t adequately repressed childbirth enough to even think about that.”

“If you’re talking about Thanksgiving, then yeah, he mentioned it.”

Josie shot Grayson a look. “Did you tell him about Christmas, too?”

“What about Christmas?” Adam asked, now curious.

“We want Harry’s first Christmas to be at Harlow Manor.” Grayson ran his hand up and down Josie’s arm.

My heart burst with joy. “Oh, Liam would love that.”

Josie’s smile grew melancholy. “We know he’s not expected to make it, but we can hope, right?”

“Of course.” I wished it was guaranteed. “But even if he isn’t here, his spirit will be.”

Silence fell over the room as Adam stood. “I’ve got work to catch up on.” He abruptly scooped up his wine glass and moved for the door. “Goodnight, all.”

“Oh, don’t forget! Melanie’s wedding is next week,” Josie called out. “You’re coming, right? She said she invited you, but you haven’t responded.”

Adam’s head fell back with his groan.

“Adam William Harlow!” Josie’s eyes flared. “That girl gave you her entire company. You’re going to her wedding.”

“And suffer the singles table? No, thanks.”

“There’s nothing wrong with the singles table,” Grayson said, tickling Josie’s side.

She pushed him away with a giggle. “Then why don’t you invite Cassidy as your plus-one?”

My widened gaze snapped to Adam, then back to Josie. “Oh, I can’t…”

“But you have the weekends off,” Josie continued. “And the wedding isn’t too far from here.”

“But Liam may nee—"

“Liam will want you to go. Plus, I know Amy would love to see you.”

Adam’s tapered gaze met mine. “How do you know Amy?”

“She’s, um…my little sister.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Of course she is. I guess that explains how you got your foot in the door.”

“Maybe so,” Josie retorted, “but Cassidy is exactly what this family needs right now.”

Adam glared at his sister-in-law. “So, being a Harlow for five minutes makes you an expert on that, does it?”

Grayson’s back straightened with his growl. “Adam…”

“It’s fine, Gray.” Josie placed her hand over his curling fingers. “He’s just deflecting.”

Adam’s jaw pulsed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Grayson sighed. “You refuse to acknowledge Grampa’s condition.”

“I’m here, aren’t I?”

“And that’s great,” Josie said, taking a softer approach. “But it wouldn’t hurt to talk about it. To me, or your brother, even Cassidy. That’s what she’s here for.”
