“I didn’t say anything.” I spun my ring around my finger, wondering how Dominic would feel about all this.

“Oh.” Bryce’s brow furrowed. “I assumed that’s why they added the Dominic Ryan Clause.”

My head shot up. “The Dominic Ryan Clause?”

Bryce opened the booklet he’d brought home and read it out loud.

“If your job is terminated while you’re receiving treatment for any life-threatening disease or illness, your health insurance will remain in place for the duration of your care.”

A sob burst from my mouth as I dropped onto the chair.

“Cass…” Tash’s arms were around me in an instant. “Breathe, girl.”

“Why would he do that?”

She wiped away the tear tracking down my cheek. “I think you know why. The question is, do you feel the same way?”

I closed my eyes as I nodded. “I do.”

“Then, maybe it’s time you tell him.”

“But Finn’s due home soon, and I…”

“I think we can handle Finn. Go call that driver and get your ass over to Harlow Corp.”

I lunged for my handbag and kissed her cheek. “Thanks, Tash.”

Once I arrived at Harlow Corp., I marched into the foyer, full of confidence, until a wave of power suits had me shifting to the outer walls. Their energy was intense. Determination, dedication, and stress were only a handful of emotions I picked up on my ninja-walk to the reception desk.

“May I help you?” the receptionist uttered without looking up.

I tilted my gaze to capture her attention and smiled when she impatiently lifted her eyes from the computer screen. “Hi, I was hoping to speak to Adam Harlow.”

Her eyebrows rose in amusement. “Do you have an appointment?”

“Well…no.”

She sniggered. “I didn’t think so.”

“Can I make one?”

“If he requests it.”

I winced. “But I don’t have his number.”

“I’ve heard that before.”

My confidence wavered. “Can you just let him know Cassidy Ryan is here? It’s important.”

The receptionist rolled her eyes as she adjusted her mouthpiece. “Leanne, I have a woman at the front desk wanting to speak to Mr. Harlow. Her name is Cassidy Ryan.” There was a short pause. “Oh…really? She’s on the list?” Her mouth fell open. “Oh, okay. I will.” She ended the call and pushed the buzzer beside her desk. “Go right up,” she said sheepishly. “Top floor.”

The elevator ride was agonizingly long, but at least I had fifteen floors to think about what I was going to say.

Another receptionist narrowed her eyes as I stepped out. “You must be Ms. Ryan.”

“Yes.”

“Mr. Harlow is in a meeting right now, but you can wait in his office.”
