“That’s because you’re not used to someone looking after you. Don’t let his guilt cloud your judgment.”

I blew over my hot coffee as I pondered her words. “Do you think that’s the only reason he’s helping me? Guilt?”

Tash shrugged. “Your intuition is better than mine. What do you think?”

I reopened my laptop with a groan. “I have too much on my plate to think.”

“Well, once everything settles down, I’ll find someone to take you out and show you a good time without all that glitz and glamour.”

“It was never abo—” I stopped myself. There was no point arguing. Tash’s mind was made up about Adam. “Okay, that sounds nice.”

“Good, because I promised Dom I’d help you find someone.”

My brow furrowed. “You did?”

“He wanted you and Finn to lead a full life, and if it wasn’t going to be with him, he wanted it to be with someone worthy. Someone willing to move mountains and love you both unconditionally.” Her lips quirked upward. “And I take my promises very seriously.”

My eyes flooded with tears as I chuckled. “If he gets your approval, I trust he’s amazing.” But it wouldn’t be Adam, and I knew, deep down, no other man could compete. And it was a lonely thought.

While Tash washed our mugs and I proceeded to apply for another job, the lyrics of “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa blasted from Tash’s cell. “Finally,” she cried out as she launched for the phone and greeted her husband.

After a moment of silence, Tash’s energy brightened the entire room. “Are you kidding? That’s unbelievable.” She rubbed her belly as it bounced around with her laughter. “I can’t believe it.”

“Did he get a promotion?” I whispered, desperate to know what was so exciting.

Tash smiled at me. “Can you send me the link? I need to show Cass.”

Once she hung up the phone, I closed my laptop and walked into the kitchen. “What’s going on? Bryce obviously didn’t lose his job.”

She lifted her hand over her gaped mouth as she read her phone. “Oh, Cass.” Tears filled her eyes. “Whatever I said, I take it back.”

I pried the cell phone out of her hand. “What are you talking about?”

Tash’s screen displayed a news article, published only fifteen minutes ago.

Adam Harlow, owner of Harlow Corp., has issued a statement today to their companies, that all employees, regardless of job hierarchy, will have access to premium health care.

The insurance policy contains unique clauses that are so generous it has made Harlow Corp. America’s most desirable place to work. Breaking their ruthless reputation—and surely the bank—this is the first time a company of this magnitude has modified their health care for the better, and it has other companies watching closely.

Has Adam Harlow made a costly mistake? Or has he singlehandedly changed the perception of one of America’s most powerful families? Perhaps his legacy will be the return of the heart and soul of Harlow Corp., previously instilled by his grandfather, the late William Harlow II, who passed away peacefully last month.

The pounding of my heart amplified with every written word. “Oh, my God.”

“He did this for you,” Tash whispered over my shoulder.

I could barely breathe as I endeavored to reread the news that was going to change so many lives, including Tash and Bryce’s. With another child on the way, they’d been worried about their finances, so it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“This will cost Harlow Corp. billions,” she gushed.

“I know.” Tears filled my eyes.He was moving mountains.

“I’m so sorry, Cass.” She placed her hand on my shoulder. “I think I was wrong about him.”

“It’s okay,” I uttered breathlessly. “I think I was, too.”

After the news broke, Bryce came home early to celebrate. Watching their relief play out side by side was beautiful, but I didn’t know what this meant for Adam and me. His fight for redemption was evident, but could I really forgive him for the years of hardship I’d had to endure?

“I don’t know what you said to Adam Harlow, but thank you, Cass.” Bryce tucked his wife under his arm. “This is huge for us.”
