“Of course you can,” Liam said. “Finn tells me he loves basketball, and our family gets season tickets every year. Grayson isn’t going, so I thought you and Finn could keep Adam out of trouble.”
“Wait…” I stared at the tickets again, zeroing in on the date. “These are in a few days…in LA!”
Liam nodded. “Adam has to head back to LA for work, so you can share the private jet with him. He also has a house in Malibu where you both can stay while you enjoy a few days off.”
“But…I can’t.” My stomach clenched with trepidation. “I have to stay here…with you…”
“Beautiful Cassidy, I’m surrounded by my family, and I’m happy.” His smile radiated warmth. “But I’ll be happier knowing you and Finn are having fun, too. You can visit all your friends while you’re there.”
Finn’s emerald gaze pleaded with me to accept.
“Okay.” I wiped the moisture from my eyes. “We’ll go.”
As Finn jumped around, Adam reached over. “You okay?”
“Mom always cries when she’s happy,” Finn interrupted with a laugh.
I wiped away a rogue tear. “I haven’t been home in a very long time.”
Adam’s gaze softened. “If you’re not comfortable staying at my place, I can organize a hotel for you. But like Gramps said, I have to work, so I won’t be around much.”
“No, it’s fine. You’ve spent too much already. We’ll be fine on your couch.”
“Couch?” Grayson sniggered before Josie poked his ribs. “Just make sure there is food in the pantry for them. You almost starved my pregnant wife last time we stayed there.”
Adam rolled his eyes. “Had I known she was pregnant, maybe I would’ve been more accommodating.”
As the brothers continued their banter, Finn rested his head on my shoulder. “I can’t believe we’re actually going to a Lakers game!”
I kissed his dark mop. “Me, too, baby.”
“And on a private plane! It’s going to be so awesome!”
“It really is,” I said, gazing over at Adam’s striking profile. And so much more complicated.
“So, I can order anything?” Finn asked for the third time in five minutes.
Adam threw me a grin. “Well, anything your mom agrees to.”
“We’ll see, okay?” I fumbled with my seatbelt. “I don’t want you getting air sick.”
“Is that going to be a problem?” Adam asked, searching the compartments for something.
I finally clicked myself in and tightened the strap. “I have no idea.”
“We’ve never been on a plane before,” Finn uttered from the seat beside me.
“A private plane?”
“Any plane,” Finn and I said in unison.
Adam’s gaze snapped to mine. “How is that possible?”
“We’ve always driven everywhere.” I flustered with Finn’s seatbelt. It was entirely too loose for his little body. “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but it’s considerably cheaper.”
“Let me.” Adam reached over and adjusted Finn’s seatbelt with ease.
“Maybe you should sit next to Mom.” Finn scowled in my direction. “She’s making me nervous.”
