“Do you think she’ll say yes?”

“You’re sporty, good looking and have great manners…what more could she want?”

Adam chuckled. “Are you saying I should follow my own advice?”

“Hey, if it works for you, maybe it’ll work for me.”

I smiled at my son’s cheeky antics.

“You’re a smart kid, Finn.”

“Mom tells me that all the time, too.”

I tapped on the door, unable to handle their adorable conversation any longer. I hadn’t heard Finn open up like that in years, and it had only taken Adam half a day. “Hey, Finn, would you mind if I drag Adam away for a few minutes?”

Adam grimaced as he placed the controller on the coffee table. “I think I’m in trouble again,” he whispered as he stood.

“Ha-ha,” I uttered as Finn giggled.

As Adam approached, I pivoted on my heel and strode back to my room, motioning for him to follow.

He paused in the doorway. “Are you sure? You made it very clear this room is off limits.”

With a huff, I pulled him inside and closed the door. “I just wanted to say thank you,” I said, swallowing back my apprehension.

“Ookay…” Adam’s brow furrowed. “But couldn’t you have thanked me over there? Finn and I are in the middle of a ga—”

I launched forward and slammed my mouth onto his. My yearning heart and body were no longer playing by the rules.

Adam jerked back, searching my eyes. “Fuck,” he mumbled before grasping my nape and pulling me back. His lips devoured mine with fierce intensity while our tongues fought a never-ending war of forbidden lust. I wanted him. The heat between us was undeniable. The fire was out of control.

“Adam! I beat your score!” Finn called out as he crossed the hallway.

As the door opened, we flew apart.

“So, thank you,” I managed to say to Adam, avoiding eye contact with both of them. “I really…appreciate it.”

“Anytime,” Adam uttered breathlessly before turning to Finn. “You beat my score?”

“Told you I would. Wanna play again?”

“Let’s have a rematch tomorrow before the big race. I need a shower before dinner.” Adam’s electrified eyes panned back to me. “You guys are joining us, right?”

Finn peered up at me, pleading. “Please, Mom? They’re having pizza.”

I ruffled his hair. “I already told Josie we would.”

“Good,” Adam said with entirely too much heat in his stare. “I’ll see you later.”

“Hey, guys,” Josie called out as we entered Liam’s room. “Take a seat. The pizzas just arrived.”

I smiled over at Liam, but he didn’t stir. His medication must’ve taken effect.

Finn dragged me to the couch, where he dove onto the chair beside Adam, unknowingly creating the perfect buffer.

Adam peeked up at me, as if reading my thoughts, but I was unable to hold his gaze. Instead, my cheeks burned bright as I sank into the space beside Finn and fetched a slice a pizza from the open box before us.

“What is that?” Finn screwed up his nose at the glorious concoction.
