“Really?!” Finn’s chest puffed out. “That would be great. You can keep Mom from embarrassing me.”

Apprehension coursed through my veins. “Adam’s a busy man, Finn, and he lives in LA. I doubt he’ll have time to get to your race.”

“No, it’s fine.” Adam turned to Finn. “I’ll be there. It’s an incredible achievement.”

I swallowed the lump in my throat. My son didn’t need any more heartache. “We’ll see,” I muttered, hoping Finn would forget come the day.

“You should practice your swimming while you’re here.” Adam passed Finn another basketball. “I won quite a few swimming comps back in my college days. I could give you some tips.”

I shook my head with a laugh. “Forget it…he doesn’t listen to anyone but his coac—"

“That would be awesome!” Finn blurted excitedly.

“Excuse me?!” The shock almost knocked me over. “I’ve been trying to give you pointers for years.”

“But this is different, Mom. Adam swam in college.”

I rolled my eyes. “So? I bet I could swim circles around him.”

The corner of Adam’s mouth lifted with his snicker. “Oh, really?”

I folded my arms. “Really.”

A dangerous spark materialized in his eyes. “Then I propose a race.”

“Yes!” Finn bounced on his feet again.

“Tomorrow? Unless you need more time to practice.”

“Oh, I don’t need practice.”Shit. Shit. Shit.

Finn laughed. “Yeah, ya do, Mom.”

“Fine,” I grumbled. “Tomorrow, but Finn, Grayson, and Josie will be judging, so don’t even think about cheating.”

Adam’s gaze tapered. “I may be some things, but I’m no cheater.”

My knees weakened under his stare, and I quickly looked away. “Well, the more witnesses the better.”

“So, what are you betting?” Finn’s big green eyes zigzagged between us.

“Surely we can play for bragging rights.”

Finn scrunched up his nose “That’s a bit boring.”

Adam sniggered. “Totally boring.”

I placed my hands on my hips. “But I don’t have anything you want.”

Adam’s eyebrow rose. “I’m sure I could think of something.” He ran his hand over his smile. “What about a free session?”

My eyes bulged. “Pardon?”

“Of…Reiki?”

“Oh.” I grasped my chest. “I guess I could do that.”

“And if Mom wins, you could buy her a new crystal. She loves them.”
