I rubbed my stomach. “It’s your fault. You said order anything.”

“Well, I better get you home before you fall into a food coma.”

After Adam paid the bill, he drove us back to Harlow Manor.

“Thanks for rescuing me tonight.” I peeked his way as he concentrated on the road. “And for dinner. You really didn’t have to do that.”

“So, your night wasn’t a complete disaster, then?”

“No.” Disappointment surged through my veins as I gazed out the windshield. “Not in the slightest.”

He glanced my way before returning his focus to the tree-lined road. “So, are you ever going to tell me what happened with the doc?”

My head fell back on the headrest. “Only if you promise not to laugh.”

“Absolutely not,” he said, grinning.

I crossed my arms. “Then no.”

Adam wiggled his head from side to side. “Fine. I’lltrynot to laugh, but I don’t promise anything I can’t commit to.”

“Alright…” I emitted a defeated sigh. “Turns out, Marc is…”

“Gay?”

“Married.”

“He’s what?!” His shock outweighed his amusement.

“You heard me.” I closed my eyes in a wince. “And no, the irony is not lost on me.”

“Holy shit, that dirty dog.” He slammed his hand on the steering wheel. “I knew something had to be wrong with that guy. He’s too clean cut.”

“Everyone is flawed. Some of us are just better at hiding it.”

He ran his gaze over my hoodie-consumed body. “So…what are you hiding?”

My thoughts shot to Finn. “Oh.” I lowered my gaze to my twiddling fingers. “I have plenty of flaws.”

“Unlikely.”

I furrowed my gaze, rummaging up the safest admissions. “I chew too loudly.”

Adam pretended to yawn. “You’re going to have to do better than that, Cass.”

“Well, sometimes…when I’m all alone…”

Adam’s eyes widened, waiting for me to continue.

“I fold in the page corners of my books instead of using a bookmark.”

He gasped dramatically. “That’s outrageous!”

“It is!” I cried, smacking his arm.

“Well, it doesn’t bother me. Go on.”

“Fine.” I grumbled. “I’m…highly sensitive.”
