Levi’s chef arrived before Chuck could even bring the food in. His name was Henry, pronouncedOnray. He was tall and thick, and he could have even been a shifter himself.
He frowned as he put his apron on around his large frame. “Who’s that woman out there?” Henry said.
Levi had made himself some coffee and waved his hand as he took a gulp. “Long story,” he said. “She’s my new bodyguard. A client hired her after the kidnapping.”
Henry nodded, looking indifferent toward both Hannah and the idea that he was indeed kidnapped. It didn’t bother Levi. It was his way. As long as the food was good, he was happy.
Eventually, Hannah came in with Chuck, who was steaming. He carried crates of food in, pushing past Hannah, who was still standing with her arms crossed over her glorious breasts.
She was starting to be quite the distraction, to say the least. The most delicious distraction.
“I’ve got to get this shit in quick,” Chuck huffed. “I’ve got another delivery I can’t be late for.”
Levi placed down his coffee and then went outside to help Chuck bring in the rest of the crates. Hannah stood as still as a statue for a few moments before she went to the truck and picked up four crates, carrying them on both shoulders.
Chuck’s sweaty glare widened as she stood by the van.
“Damn,” Chuck whispered.
The driver left after Levi briefly explained the situation. Levi came inside to find Hannah was once again giving one of his service workers the third degree.
Louis, unlike Chuck, appeared unaffected by her questions. He, too, had his arms crossed and answered each question with a calm stoicism.
“Hannah,” Levi whispered.
She darted her eyes at him, some of her wolf emerging from the depths.
He motioned his head toward her, and she came over, looking as irritated as ever.
“What?” she snarled.
“Are you going to question everyone here?” he asked, whispering close to her ear.
She clenched her jaw, wrapping her arms tighter around her body.
“That’s what I’m here for, Levi,” she snapped at him. “I have to make sure no one has been compromised.”
“These people have worked for me for years. I trust them unequivocally.”
Hannah took a step back and then cocked an eyebrow at him. Her eyes were dazzling in the morning light, making him want to fall to his knees and worship her beauty.
“Then I guess you’ll do just fine without me, right?”
Levi felt his heart sink for a moment. The idea of her leaving broke his heart and sent him into deep sorrow. That told him all he needed to know about how strongly he felt about her.
He smiled and watched her expression harden into confusion.
“Well,” he said, saddling up closer to her. “I never said that. Just maybe, go a bit softer on them, hmm? Maybe not too rough?”
Something passed through Hannah’s eyes that caused her lower lip to slip beneath her teeth. It was a fraction of a second, but Levi was close enough to see it, sending the heat between them to scorching levels.
She finally let her arms fall to her side, and she popped her hip out before speaking.
“Fine,” she said, trying not to smile. “I’ll stop for now. But I’m keeping an eye on them. And on you.”
She looked him up and down, her gorgeous eyes assessing him, and Levi thought he just might faint.
Hannah turned on her heel and entered the dining room to wait for breakfast to be made. He followed behind her like a little pup, loyal to his master at all costs.
