“It was only my stupid macho way of looking out for you.”

“I know.” She flashed him a small smile. “Itwasstupid though.”

“Sorry.” He wrapped her in a hug and she relaxed into him.

“I have a question for you,” she said, moving away from him. “Do you think Kit’s good enough for me, or are you going to interfere and cause issues between us too?”

He tilted his head to one side. “Please tell me that means you two got together?”

“Yes. We did.”

“Wow! I knew there was something weird going on with you when you were making up excuses why you couldn’t be with him instead of just saying you didn’t like him.” His smile lit up his face. “I’m really happy for you. And I’m surprised I haven’t heard about it from Kit. He must be pretty chuffed with himself.”

“He came over yesterday evening and we talked everything through. Then we’ve just been hibernating here.” Annoying as the rain was, spending so much time with Kit away from prying eyes and gossiping tongues was good. It gave Seren time to get used to the relationship before going public with it.

“I’m happy for you.” Noah gave her a lazy smile. “I’m not saying Kit’s good enough for you … but I reckon I’d have a tough time scaring him off.”

Seren chuckled. “I imagine you suggesting to your brother that you’ve been sleeping with his girlfriend wouldn’t go down too well – regardless of whether or not it was a joke.”

“That’s very true.” He winced. “You said you’d forgive me for being an arse, but you’re not going to let meforgetit, are you?”

“I didn’t say anything about forgiving you. That was Kit, remember? Which reminds me, I should have a word with him about going into my phone without permission.”

“You forgive me though, right?”

“Yes. The crab cakes swung it for you.”

“Speaking of which, I’m starving.”

Seren got a couple of plates out, then paused. “Would you mind if we hang out another time instead?”

“How come?”

“I was expecting to have dinner with Kit.” Her mouth watered when she looked down at the crab cakes. “I waslooking forwardto having dinner with Kit. And I was freaking out slightly because he was acting all sketchy and then left in a hurry. Obviously, he wanted to be out of the way when you got here … I’m really glad everything is cool between us, but …”

“But you’re going to ditch me in favour of your boyfriend?”

Seren smiled at the thought of Kit being her boyfriend. “Yeah. That’s exactly what I’d like to do.”

She grabbed her toothbrush and a change of clothes before walking outside with Noah. “Do you want a lift home?” she asked, feeling it was the least she could do since she’d taken dinner from him.

“I’ve got Mum’s car,” he said as they stepped out into the rain which had settled to a steady drizzle. “I guess I need to stop and pick up more crab cakes too.”

“I guess so.”

“Can we hang out soon?” he asked.

“I’d like that.” She gave him a hug and thanked him for dinner, then got into her car for the short drive to Kit’s place.

He sounded vaguely confused on the intercom when she rang the bell, then looked concerned when she stepped inside his flat.

“Am I in trouble?” he asked.

“No.” She set her bag down and draped her arms around his shoulders. “I love you, Kitto Treneary.”

The smile crept slowly over his face. “Good. Did you sort things out with Noah?”

“Kit!” She gave him a playful shove. “I told you I love you. You’re supposed to say it back.”
