“That’s one of our other problems.” He purses his lips, his eyes growing dark. “I approached you for two reasons at the mall today. One, because you’re fucking beautiful, and you’re mine. Two, because some goddamn creep was hiding behind a clothing rack, watching you. I was trying to tell you that when the goddamn teenagers descended and you ran off.” He shoots me a severe look. “I lost him in the crowd, too.”
“Someone was watching me?” My stomach sinks. “Are you sure? Maybe they were just…” I trail off, searching for an explanation, but I draw a blank. I’ve only been in town for two months. I don’t know anyone here aside from my brother and my coworkers.
“Has it happened before, pretty baby?” Razor asks.
“I don’t know.” I swallow hard, overwhelmed. “Maybe.”
His eyes narrow, a warning growl rumbling in his throat. “How often?”
“I don’t know,” I whisper. “I feel like someone has been watching me all week. I just thought I was being paranoid. Are you sure you saw someone? Maybe they were just…” I trail off again, searching for an explanation that won’t come. “Did you get a look at him? Her?” I press my hands to my cheeks. I feel like I’m spiraling. “Them?”
“It was a man, Adalynn. Didn’t get a look at his face. He was dressed in a hoodie with sunglasses over his face. Maybe five-eleven, broad shoulders. Had douche written all over him,” he growls, his voice dark with menace.
“I feel like I'm going to be sick.”
“Hey.” He snags my hand, reeling me in until I’m pressed up against the bar, leaning halfway over it. His ocean eyes bore into mine, his minty breath wafting across my face. Lord, he’s intense. And, somehow, even hotter up close and personal like this. “We’ve got this, pretty baby. I’m not letting you out of my sight again. We’ll find him, deal with it, and then we can get back to what’s important.”
“Wh-what’s important?” I ask, licking my lips.
“Yeah,” he rumbles. “What’s important. Me and you.”
“I lied. I’m not going to be sick. I think I’m going to faint.”
CHAPTERTHREE
RAZOR
“Do you need to sit down, pretty baby?” I reach across the bar and wrap my hand around her precious face. My cock hardens painfully as I get a good look at her outfit up close. Goddamn, I hate the thought of any other men getting a look at my goddess. Adalynn’s tiny black skirt hugs her luscious body, giving a peek at the curves below, and that fucking tight ass shirt shows off way too fucking much of her bountiful tits for my sanity. Visions of the black high-heeled boots wrapped around my back, digging into my skin while I eat her juicy cunt run through my mind.
“Uh.” She bites her bottom lip, shaking her head. “I can’t.” Adalynn signals over her shoulder. “My boss is a douche canoe.” My curvy goddess’s eyes widen as she slaps a hand across her mouth again, and I can’t control the laugh that rumbles from my throat. “Don’t laugh,” she growls adorably. “My freaking filter doesn’t work around you.”
“Good.” I run my finger down her button nose. “I don’t ever want you to filter your thoughts from me. You can tell me absolutely anything.” She needs to know how deep my devotion runs. “I’d die, kill, or hide a body for you.”
“Let’s hope none of that is necessary.” She smirks.
A little weaselly fuck with sandy blond hair, watery blue eyes, and wire-rimmed glasses perched haphazardly on his nose comes up and interrupts. “Adalynn, I don’t know if you noticed the line, but it’s growing by the second.” My girl jumps away from me, and I barely resist the urge to deck the asshole. “I’m not paying you to flirt with the entertainment.” This must be the bar manager. My girl is right. He’s a douche canoe.
“The entertainment was flirting with her.” It’s time to put this moron in his place. “And since my friend is part owner in this bar, I know you aren’t paying any salaries.” As his face turns the color of a ripe eggplant, I dig in a little more. “Another thing, I’m sure Bender won’t have a problem with my girl flirting with her man.” Bender is a silent partner in several of the businesses in town. I’m going to make sure he knows it’s time to find a new bar manager.
“I have to get back to work.” Adalynn steps back, and I hate the distance between us. “But I get off at midnight. Will you still be around?”
“I’m not going anywhere.” I turn and point at the empty barstool at the end of the bar. “I’ll sit right over here and wait for you.”
“But.” There’s that adorable little crease on her forehead. “Don’t you have to stay with your band?”
“My gig is over,” I tell her. “Now, my real job starts.” Making sure she’s safe and happy just became my only goal in life. First, I plan to find the asshole stalking her and plant my foot permanently in his ass. Then, I’ll tie Adalynn to me for life.
* * *
I’m sitting at the end of the bar nursing the beer Adalynn set in front of me a few moments ago. Ignoring everyone else in the bar, I watch my girl’s every move. When I feel a hand fall on my shoulder, I spin around, ready to deck the motherfucker, and find Bender smirking at me. “I only have one question.” He glances over at Adalynn and shakes his head. “Have you been drinking the Silver Spoon Falls water?”
I set my bottle on the bar. “What?”
“The water in town. Have you been drinking it?” He shrugs like this is a normal conversation.
“I grabbed a bottle of water at the convenience store on the way out of Houston,” I answer, remembering Pen telling me about a rumor flying around the small town. At the time, I thought she was fucking with me, but I guess the residents really do believe the town’s water causes love at first sight.
“Oh.” He rubs his bottom lip. “Then this is a completely random phenomenon.”
