“Okay. Will do. See you soon.” She disappeared.
Wow. I really, reallyloved being able to see her like that. I wondered if it’d stay that way outside of the apartment or if I’d be able to see other spirits. I guessed we’d soon find out.
I rolled over and kissed Kholt’s shoulder gently before propping my head on my hand, my elbow resting on the bed. He stirred a bit and turned his head in my direction. “Mornin’,” he said, his eyes sleepy, and his expression adorable. “So it wasn’t a dream.”
I grinned. “No, it wastotallya dream.” I blew him a kiss. “Just not how I imagine you mean.”
He leaned up and kissed me, and I melted into him.
“While I would love to continue this and take it even further, we have to get going. Dev needs me for some magical stuff this morning. You are welcome to come with me.”
He rubbed his eyes and stretched, the movement doing all sorts of delightful things to the muscles in his arms and chest. “Yeah, okay,” he said with a yawn. “Let me hit the head, check my messages, and make sure I don’t need to take care of anything. Do you mind if I make a cup of coffee after?”
“Not at all. Go ahead. I’ll try to be quick in the bathroom.”
“Take your time,” he said, giving me another quick peck before getting out of bed. “Just give me two seconds before you get in there.”
I sighed a little as I watched him walk away, the muscles in his butt bunching and those sexy dimples winking from above.
The man was yummy.
Later, when I exited the bathroom in my robe, shower taken, ponytail donned, and minimal makeup applied, Kholt was sitting at the kitchen table with his phone. His energy seemed a bit off.
“Everything okay?” I asked as I walked to the fridge and grabbed a protein shake.
“I’m not sure,” he said, his mouth a bit screwed up on one side. “Turner left a voicemail last night. He sounded upset.” He looked up at me. “Does Dev need everybody?”
I nodded and took a drink from the bottle. “Yeah. We need to work some magic on the entire team before filming starts. Do you maybe want to go and see him first? You can still come over if you want. Come with him, I mean. He knows where Arborwood is.”
“Yeah, I think that might be good.”
“Okay, I gotta run and get dressed. Do whatever you have to do. Just lock the door and close it on your way out.”
He got up and crossed to me, slipping his arms inside the robe to pull me close. “You trust me enough to leave me alone in your space?”
“You’ve earned that trust. Doesn’t mean I’m letting my guard down. I’m not careless. Besides, this place is warded to the gills. If anybody eventhinksof doing anything that might harm me or Phantom here, they’re in for a rude awakening.”
“Duly noted.” He kissed me again. “Ugh. Sorry. I don’t suppose you have a spare toothbrush hanging around?”
“I do, actually. Check the second shelf of the closet in the bath.”
“You’re the best. See you soon.” He started to walk away. “And, Lark?”
I turned around from where I’d been headed to the bedroom. “Yeah?”
“Thank you for last night and for your trust.”
I smiled and blew him a kiss, my heart swelling. He’d earned it, and he’d given me even more.
Chapter19
~Kholt~
Idouble-checked Lark’s front door and headed down the stairs to my truck. I hoped Turner was okay. He’d sounded so upset in his voicemail, and he hadn’t answered any of my follow-up texts this morning.
This was becoming a bit of a habit, and I didn’t like it.
When I got to his place, I ran up the stairs and knocked on the door, hoping he hadn’t already left for Arborwood. Luckily, I heard the lock click.
