“No, princess.” He kisses her forehead. “You and Link have to stay home and help Mommy with the babies.”
She looks at me and still reaches for him. She’s a daddy’s girl. That’s for sure. No matter which one is there, she will always want to be involved with them. But Holden leaves and Cora, crying inconsolably, comes to me and snuggles against my side. “Mommy.”
“I know.”
“Let’s get you to school,” Roman says to Link after finishing his lunch.
I get up, ready to say goodbye, but Link hurries over. He kisses my cheek. “I love you, Mommy.” Then he kisses Cora’s cheek. “I love you, Cora.” Then my belly. “I love you, babies.”
I’m ready to cry happy tears from that alone. Link is proof we’re doing something right. He’s such a good boy. He’s so strong and so sure of himself. So confident.
When Roman gets back, he finds Cora and me watching Paw Patrol. He kisses the top of her head and cuddles her on his lap. “How is my favorite princess?”
She giggles and then touches Roman’s hair that’s grown out. “Play?”
“Of course, we can play. Do you want to play with the cars or blocks?”
“Blocks! Build a castle.” She decides.
I watch them play for a while, then rub my belly. If something is going on with my men, I should know. I have two babies on the way so if something is happening, I want to know now. I know my men love me, but if there’s some hot piece of ass that they’re ogling while at work, flirting with despite not touching ...
“Roman.”
“Yes, Bambina?”
“Bambina!” Cora yells.
He chuckles and tickles her, making her squeal. I adjust on the couch. “Why are the guys working weekends and at the office for so long?”
“No reason.”
I arch an eyebrow. He sighs. “It’s nothing to worry about, Sophie. I would tell you if it were.”
“I would like to be told either way, please.”
“Tonight then.”
“I’ve heard that before. Tomorrow, tonight, later.” I push myself off the couch and go to the kitchen. “We’re partners in everything.”
“I know.”
“So tell me. If it’s something Ishouldn’tworry about, then you don’t need to talk to the guys about it before telling me, do you?”
Roman zips his lips and Cora does the same before laughing. He manages to stay busy with her and then Link so I can’t ask, but that doesn’t mean I’m letting it go. So, I go up to my room, saying I need a nap, and call my father.
He takes a while to pick up. On the last ring, he calls. “How are you, Sophie?”
“Pregnant,” I say.
But as soon as I say it, I remember we hadn’t told them. I hear the phone fumble, then he’s back. “What?”
“Yeah. We saw the doctor and got all the results Friday. I wouldn’t let the guys say anything and-”
“No wonder they’re so squirrely lately.” He snorts. “Congratulations, honey. How are Link and Cora taking it?”
“In stride. I hope you’re ready for two more grandkids.”
“Two!?” He gasps. “Jeeze. I guess you’re happy then.”
