I smirk and pat Gunner’s back. “You’ll have to try harder to convince me.”
He chuckles and nods to me. “Thanks, Nick.”
I leave Gunner putting up decorations while listening to the monster mash and join Sophie in bed. I see her quickly lock her phone as I take off my shirt. I wrap myself around her and feel her shake.
“I could get a doctor to come out tomorrow. You know that right?”
“It’s not an emergency.”
“It is if you’re shaking.” I kiss her neck.
“I get nervous each time. But I’ll get my answers this week. Until then, I might just need some help staying in the moment.”
“One of your husbands is listening to the monster mash while putting up Halloween décor. Guess which one?”
“Gunner,” She says without hesitation. It makes us both laugh. She sighs. “I know you four so well.”
“Yeah? Guess where the others are.”
“Roman isn’t here, so he probably fell asleep reading to the kids and will wake up with his neck hurting in the morning. Holden is either trying to beat the computer in chess again or talking to my dad.”
“And me?”
She rolls over to face me. “You’re right here with me.”
“What am I thinking?”
She laughs and kisses me softly. “That you love me and you’re probably figuring out what kind of flowers to surprise me with.”
I mimic a buzzer. “I’m thinking about spilling a secret since I think it will make you happy.”
“Really?”
“I’m also thinking about inviting Valerie here so you have some girl time.”
Sophie strokes over my chest and kisses my neck. “You know me so well, Nick. But you really should tell me the secret.”
“We’ll tell you tomorrow, together. Today has been big enough,” I whisper into her hair. “So let’s put on your favorite movie and fall asleep together.”
“I like the sound of that.” She admits, rubbing over my chest. “Thank you, Nick.”
“There isnothingI wouldn’t do for you, sweetheart.”
“Jeeze, you never say that kind of stuff to me, but give me shit for not hitting on you?” Gunner demands.
Sophie laughs and moves closer to me to welcome Gunner behind her. We start a movie and settle in together. I kiss Sophie’s forehead and know I’m still going to bother the doctor tomorrow to make sure she gets attention this week. She doesn’t need the stress when she should be glowing with happiness. I’ll put that smile back on her face yet.

The next day is easier. There’s just excitement. I made my husbands agree not to spill the beans about the pregnancy until I talk to the doctor. I want to have all the answers before we go public.
Having the support of my men helps. By lunch, I’ve already forgotten about the need for the doctor since I’m wrangling our kids. Holden catches Cora and she squeals with delight before he gets them both to settle in with Legos.
Gunner is M.I.A., but he did say he had to work today, which is crazy. I need to have a talk with my dad about these hours. Since both kids are utterly entranced by Holden, his bright smile, and his warmth ... maybe it’s not just the kids who are entranced.
He’s come to life, and overcome so much with the kids around. Seeing him be so open, so bright, and shiny with our children makes me swoon for him all over again. Who knew that my sexy men would get even sexier and more irresistible as dads?
