Page 46 of Mistakes

“I saw someone at the store today,” Matthew said.

“Ah, I see. I guess you went to a human store.” She felt so guilty for meeting up with Harris earlier. In her purse was the number, but she hadn’t called it yet as she was a little afraid of what it would all mean once she did. She hadn’t told Duke yet either. Going to see him would be hard to do without Matthew asking questions.

“Yeah, it was a human store.” He dipped the spoon into the ice cream and held it out to her. She lifted and wrapped her lips around the spoon. “I saw Emmaline.”

The ice cream was cold, but the chocolatey taste seemed to go bitter at the mention of Emmaline.

“You did?” she asked, swallowing.

“Yeah. Do you remember her?”

“Of course, I remember her.” Luna ran her hands through the water. “Many people didn’t have a nice thing to say about her.” Mainly girls because Emmaline had slept with theirboyfriend.

Luna had seen Matthew with her.

“What about her?” She didn’t even know if he knew that she’d seen them together.

Matthew put the ice cream down and sat up. He took her hands and locked their fingers together. “I know I made a lot of mistakes in the past. Emmaline was one of them.”

“Matthew, we don’t need to do this.”

“I told her.”

“What?”

“I told her that you were my girl. That I was taken.”

“Why, why would you do that?” Luna asked.

He reached out and tucked some of her hair behind her ear. “Because you’re mine.”

Luna stared at him, her heart pounding.

“I want it all with you, Luna. Every single moment. I want you to be my old lady. I want to marry you. I’m in all the way. This isn’t just words for me. I’m fully committed.”

“You have the club.” Words were hard to form. This was different. She’d heard him tell her so many times how much he loved her and that he wanted to be with her, back then and even now.

This was different. They weren’t just words. He meant them.

“I know I’ve got to prove to you that I’m not going to mess up, that I won’t step out on you. I’m going to do that. You don’t have to say anything.”

She let go of his hands and then moved closer, straddling his waist and kissing him. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she pressed her body against his and just kissed him.

Matthew’s hands banded around her, and she felt alive.

Luna broke the kiss first. “I love you, Matthew. So damn much.”

“I told her that you were mine. That you were my girl.”

She giggled. “I bet she hated that.”

“She did, but I don’t care. I’m not hiding anymore. I’m not running away from you.”

Luna felt the hard ridge of his cock press against her core.

“One day, when I’m a patched-in member, you’re going to be my old lady.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Do we have to do that?”
