Page 20 of Mistakes

Luna was pissed, but he’d also detected something else as well—interest. She wanted him and probably hated that she did, but it was there. If mentioning sex was what he had to go on to start winning her back, then that was exactly what he was going to do.

Chapter Five

Luna got to the diner and cursed as she saw it was closed once again. This time, she didn’t bother to pull out her cell phone to call him. Mac had already told her that he’d pay for all the missed days, including potential tips.

Shaking her head, she spun on her heel and decided to head back home. She’d already filled her parents’ fridge and freezer with enough food to feed her for a couple of weeks.

There was nothing for her to do.

Several people stopped her on her way back to her parents’ house, smiling at her and asking her how she’d been. She was nice, polite to everyone. That was what the Daniels’ daughter was. She would hate for her parents to be disappointed in her. It was why they never found out what happened. They never knew their precious daughter had fallen for a biker’s lies.

It had been so humiliating, but at the time Matthew sounded so sincere. She hated herself for falling for the couple of lines that had been lies. He must have practiced them, which only made her feelings so much worse.

When she skipped a period, all she’d known was panic.

Panic. Fear. She’d been terrified.

While her world had fallen apart because of what Matthew had done, and then she saw him with other girls, she kept on pretending for her parents. They didn’t know their daughter was heartbroken and completely empty inside. They didn’t know anything about what she went through. It was why she was alone taking the pregnancy test.

Seeing that she wasn’t pregnant had been a huge relief. It meant she could move on with her life, and yet, here she was, back in Vale Valley.

Luna stopped at the edge of the front lawn. The one Matthew had mowed.

“Luna, I’m being serious. You haven’t— I was a mess back then. It wasn’t good. I know that. I can make that up to you.”

Their time together had sucked. It hurt. She’d hated it.

Damn it. Why did Matthew have to go and make such a stupid proposition like that? Didn’t he get it that she hated him?

This sucked. All of it sucked.

After storming up to her front door, she opened the lock, made her way inside, and slammed the door. She dropped her bag, kicked off her shoes, and went to the dining room table. After opening a couple of windows, as it was way too warm, she fired up her laptop and waited for it to load.

Her dad had just recently updated her laptop, so it didn’t take too long to load. Tapping her fingers against the keys, she brought up her latest document.

No title. Just several chapters she’d been working on. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard. She had so many words she wanted to write, but once again, Matthew was getting inside her head.

“Luna, I’m being serious. You haven’t— I was a mess back then. It wasn’t good. I know that. I can make that up to you.”

It was stupid, and she needed to focus. Having sex with Matthew would be a giant mistake. They weren’t good for each other, and she had sworn off him. That guy had broken her heart.

Going to the club a few months ago had been a big mistake. She didn’t even know why she’d been there, or that she witnessed one of the guys, Landon, she thought it was, claiming his woman.

It was a horrible tradition. One Matthew had told her about. How the men took turns with the club pussy, but when it came to their women, it was only them.

None of it made any sense, but she had witnessed it. A woman becoming a member’s old lady, and it was strange because it hadn’t seemed dirty to her. Sure, people had watched and it was weird, but the couple had been together. Just the two of them.

No one else.

“When I claim you, it’ll just be me and you.”

Matthew had been drunk when he said that. He’d come to her house late at night, throwing stones at her window. She doubted he even remembered this. He certainly never talked about it.

They had sex that night as well. Yes, it had been awful. So very awful. She’d hated it. He hadn’t known what he was doing then either. Matthew had wandered off after telling her how much he loved her.

Of course, the next time she saw him, he’d been dry-humping Lizzie Torres up the school wall. They’d been really into it. Lizzie had whispered into his ear, they’d looked at her, and then both of them had laughed.

Whatever.
