“Like your fingers dancing over my skin or lips or tongue.”

“Tongue, huh?” I smirked, drinking her in. Letting my eyes roam over every single inch of her. My gaze snagged on the scar on her wrist though and some of the heat stirring inside me cooled.

“Don’t do that,” she whispered.

“What is it you think I’m doing?”

“Blaming yourself, blaming me… I don’t know. But whatever you’re thinking, it won’t change anything. We can’t go back, Nix, we can only look forward.”

“I thought you said you can’t look forward.”

Her eyes narrowed with irritation. “You know what I mean.”

My knees hit the mattress and I crawled over her, hovering on my forearms. “I do.” I kissed the tip of her nose.

Harleigh slid her hands up my chest and locked them over my shoulders. “I love you, Nix. Nothing that happened and nothing that happens in the future will ever change that. You are, and always will be, the boy who stole my heart.”

Fuck.

I didn’t deserve her. Her honest words. The trust in her eyes. Her gorgeous fragile body. Her broken jagged heart. But I was a selfish motherfucker because I couldn’t let her go.

Tracing the seam of her lips with my tongue, I kissed her. A silent promise to the future I wanted for us. For her.

“Nix,” she breathed, pulling me closer. My body fell on top of hers, the kiss turning frantic. Needy and desperate. I sucked on her bottom lip, dragging it between my teeth, making her whimper. That sound… fuck, that sound was like my own personal symphony.

“What do you want, B?” I drawled as she lifted her hips, rubbing herself against my rock hard dick.

“You, I want—”

“Nix, sweetheart, are you home?”

Birdie’s eyes went wide as I stilled above her.

“What the fuck are they doing back?” I fumed, rolling off Harleigh.

She clutched the sheet to her body, staring at me with utter shock. “What should I do?”

“I… uh.” I dragged a hand down my face, trying to think. Fuck.

Fuck.

This could not be happening.

“Get dressed. I’ll go distract them.”

“And then what? I can’t exactly climb out the window.”

“I guess you’ll have to come out and say hello.” I shrugged.

“Ugh.” She flipped back down and covered her face with her hands.

“Look, we’ll say hello and then get the fuck out of here. I’ll take you for breakfast or something.”

“Eat.” Bitter laughter spilled from her lips. “You think I can eat right now? I feel like I’m going to puke. This was a bad idea.”

“Will you stop with that bullshit?” I hissed, anger shooting through me.

“Nix, I didn’t—”
