He nodded stiffly. “Well, I’ll let you enjoy your party. If you ever want to talk, you know where to find me.”
She pursed her lips, discomfort rolling off her in waves. I smoothed my thumb over her hip offering my silent support.
“Nix.” He gave me a small smile and disappeared back into the small crowd of people.
“He’s making it very hard for me to hate him,” she whispered, the words strained.
“You can hate him and still want to know him. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.”
“When did you get so wise?” Harleigh turned into me and laid her hands on my chest.
Fuck.
When she looked at me like that, I felt ten feet tall.
“Well, there was this girl who told me I was worth something…”
“Yeah, she sounds kind of special.” Her lips quirked, humor dancing in her eyes.
“Oh, she’s very special.” I leaned in, brushing my lips along her jaw. “So special I think I’ll keep her.”
“Lucky girl.” She smiled against my mouth, a shiver going through her.
“No, B.” I breathed. My heart so fucking full of love for her. “He’s the lucky one.”
