Nix
“What the fuck are you doing?” I tried to shove Cherri away, but she was wrapped around me like a fucking koala.
“Come on, Nix.” She dipped her head closer. “It was always so good between us.” She trailed her hand down my chest.
“Cherri, I’m serious, get the fuck—”
Her lips crashed down on mine, her tongue plunging into my mouth. “Fucking stupid bitch.” I shoved her off me and she landed on her ass, cussing me out.
I tried to stand, but the world spun, and I staggered back into the chair. “Whoa.”
“What the hell, Nix?” Another voice shrieked and I strained to see but everything was spinning.
“Clo?” I blinked and blinked again trying to focus.
“What the hell are you doing with her?”
“Who?”
“Cherri, asshole.”
“I’m not—”
“I am right here, you know.”
“I swear to God, Cherri,” Chloe sneered. “If you don’t get the fuck out of here, I will—”
Kye scooped his sister up and pulled her out of the line of fire as Cherri staggered to her feet.
“Keep your feral bitch of a sister away from me, Carter. Or I’ll—”
Zane appeared. “Don’t say something you’ll regret.”
“Yeah, whatever. My work here is done anyway. Poor little Harleigh Wren sure did look crushed when she saw you all over me. That was pure luck that she turned up to witness the fall of the mighty Phoenix Wilder, but I guess the universe was on my side tonight.” She smirked.
My heart stopped, sobering me.
“What did you say?” Ice trickled through my veins.
“You heard me.” She sneered. “Did you really think I’d let you just cast me aside without a little payback?” Her smug laughter was like nails down a blackboard. “Oh, you did. Poor baby. I’d planned to seduce you, spread a few rumors, maybe snap a photo or two. But seeing the look on her face when she saw us… so much sweeter. Enjoy the party, assholes.”
Cherri sauntered off as if she hadn’t just dropped a bomb at my feet.
“Tell me she’s lying,” I seethed, my body trembling as I clenched my fists at my sides. “Tell me she wasn’t here.”
“Fuck,” Zane hissed.
“Clo?” I asked.
“I’m sorry, Nix. She wanted it to be a surprise.”
“Fuck.” I shot up, shoving the chair so hard it flipped over. “Fuck.” I kicked the damn thing for good measure, pain shooting up my foot and into my leg. “I need to go, right now. I need— whoa.” Everything spun again and I stumbled on my feet.
Zane caught me, dragging me to another chair. “Sit there and don’t move.”
“I need to—”
“Don’t. Fucking. Move. I’ll get you some water.”
