Addie’s cousin, Everly, smiled. “She’s a born mama.”

“She’s definitely got the gentle touch down, but you’re also going to have to learn to be a referee if you have more than one,” Hadley said.

Addie grinned. “I’ll leave bad cop to Beckett.”

Hadley snorted. “Good luck with that. My brother is a total pushover.”

A look of such tenderness passed over Addie’s face, it had me looking away.

“I love that about him.”

Hadley laughed. “She’s definitely a goner.”

Addie set Gizmo down, moving to the container of treats she kept just for him. “Yup. And I’m fine with that.” She tossed a treat down to my dog, who gobbled it up.

I set the bag on the counter and moved to wash my hands, Addie following behind me to do the same. “I brought bagels. I hope that goes with whatever smells so good.”

“It’s a savory breakfast casserole, so bagels are perfect.” Addie’s cheeks heated. “I was going to make biscuits to go with it, but I lost track of time this morning.”

I waggled my eyebrows. “Lost track of time? Or Beckett distracted you?”

Addie buried her face in the hand towel. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t be embarrassed. Beck is hot,” Everly said.

“Ev,” Addie scolded. “He’s your brother-in-law.”

“So? I can still objectively say he’s hot.”

Hadley made a gagging noise. “Subject change. For the love of God, subject change.”

Everly sent Hadley an evil grin. “What? You don’t want to hear about your brother’s hotness?”

“Gross. How about we talk about your other hotness sighting?”

Everly shook her head. “Hayes said there was no way it was him.”

“Who?” Addie asked as she pulled the casserole out of the oven.

“Ev thinks she saw Boden Cavanaugh driving through town yesterday,” Hadley explained.

“I swear it was him. He had the window of his truck down, and his dog stuck its head out.”

I slid onto one of the stools at the counter. “The actor?”

“You mean the heartthrob?” Hadley asked.

Ev broke off a piece of bagel. “He definitely makes my heart go pitter-patter.”

“Which one is he again?” Addie asked as she moved the casserole to the island.

Ev reached for the cream cheese. “Remember that movie we watched two weekends ago?”

“The one that sent me into a heaving mess?”

Everly’s lips twitched. “I thought Beckett was going to throttle me.”

Addie laughed. “He doesn’t handle my tears well.”
