A muscle in Hayes’ jaw ticked. “Not yet. We’ve got our best tech on it, but every time she finds something, it’s just another false trail.”
I linked my fingers with Hadley’s. “Did you at least have any luck getting her address taken down?”
“Every post we saw is now down, but that doesn’t stop whoever this is from posting again. I’m sorry, Hads, but you’re going to have to stay with Calder until we find whoever’s doing this. It’s not worth the risk.”
I had no problem with her staying forever. I wanted her to. But I wanted it to come from a place of choice, not force.
Hadley glanced at me. “Is that okay?”
I leaned over and brushed my lips against hers. “I love waking up with you every day.”
Hayes let out what sounded like a strangled cough. “I really don’t need to be reminded about what’s going on with you and my sister.”
Hadley blushed but scowled at her brother. “Then mind your own beeswax.”
“You’re sitting right in front of me. It’s a little hard to ignore.”
I swallowed the chuckle that wanted to break free. “Do I need to give you both a time out?”
They both glared at me.
“I’m just saying, a time out might do you both some good.”
Hadley looked at her brother. “He’s too smug for his own good.”
“Amen to that. You need to put him in his place a little more.”
“Trust me, I’m working on it.”
This time, the laugh burst free, and there was no stopping it. We needed this little slice of normal, even if it came in the form of bickering and giving each other a hard time. Because what was between the lines of Hayes’ report was that he had no idea who was harassing Hadley. And that meant the culprit could be anywhere.

Hadley
I bouncedthe quarter against the table and cursed when it missed the cup by a millimeter.
The couch dipped next to me. “Are you playing quarters without any alcohol?” Amusement lit Calder’s tone.
“That, I am.”
“Can I ask why?”
“I’m freaking bored.” We hadn’t had a single callout all day. I’d tried reading, watching a movie, but I couldn’t focus. Quarters was the best I had to entertain myself.
“We’ve only got a few minutes left on the clock for the day.”
“Hallelujah.” I rolled my shoulders back, trying to relieve a little of the tension that had been living there lately.
“Sore?”
“Just tense.”
“Here.” Calder turned me so that I faced away from him and began kneading my shoulders.
I let out a little moan. “Please never stop doing that.”
“I’ll keep going if you promise not to moan like that again. If I get a hard-on at the station, I’ll never hear the end of it.”
