Not quite as much as Cleo. But all things in good time. I might have just found my place and it’s not just with Cleo.
I plop down on the barstool, tapping the rough-hewn wood. “Set em up, barkeep.” He grins and sets a glass down in front of me and I lift it, toasting him before tossing it back, gasping slightly at the heat burning all the way to my belly.
“Smooth,” I whisper roughly.
Rafe shakes his head and chuckles, handing me another drink. “Take it easy, buddy. Why don’t you tell me what’s going on with you and Cleo?”
“It’s Halloween, man. And that woman right there is my fate. That’s all that matters.”
“Good luck. Because judging by the way those two are glaring you might find yourself run out of town.”
I glance over at the two furious women. Lifting my glass, I sip the scotch. Cleo glares at me and then turns away and I feel my heart burn like it’s been set on fire. I rub my chest and turn to Rafe.
“I’ve got all the time in the world. She’s not getting rid of me that easily.”
He nods sympathetically and hands me a menu. “Eat something too. Or you’re gonna be flat on your face.”
CHAPTER5
Cleo
“Why the hell hasn’t Rafe thrown his ass out,” I whisper frantically to Jamie.
She shrugs her shoulders. “It’s hard to say. Sometimes he gets a wild hair and he doesn’t listen to me. Really, men are a pain in the ass sometimes.”
I shoot her a smirk. “Not when you’re getting some, Jamie.”
She giggles and lifts her fruity glass to her lips. “Well, no. That man is ah-ma-zing in bed!”
“Shut up! You know it’s been ages since I got any. It’s not nice to throw your awesome sex in my face, you know,” I grumble, sipping at my drink.
“Your choice. That guy looks like he’d be good for a hella good time.” She eyes him up and her icy blue eyes sparkle wickedly. “He looks like he’s got lots of stamina and he’s got that cockiness to him that makes me think ‘big dick energy’ is a real thing.” Her red lips close around her straw and she eyes him while she takes a deep drink.
I slap her arm hard. “Hey! We were just talking about how much great sex you’re getting and all of a sudden you’re picturing Steele naked. I can see it in your eyes!” I growl.
“Is that his name, Steele? Mmmm. Sexy,” she purrs.
“Really? What the hell, Jamie? I should tell Rafe what you just said!” I eye her angrily, jealousy ripping into my chest.
She snorts and eyes me cheekily. “He won’t worry He doesn’t mind me looking because I take all my energy out on him.”
“Please tell me that you don’t get turned on by other men and then go have hot, sweaty sexy times with your hubby. Gross.”
“Of course not. Jeez, what the hell do you think of me?”
“I think you’re entirely too comfortable with your sexuality. It’s a little disconcerting.”
“Especially when you’re not as comfortable with your own, right? What’s the story behind this guy? I’ve never seen him in town.”
“I ran into him when I was leaving from Manitou Springs. He tried to steal my taxi.”
“The bastard,” she snorts, her nose buried in her froufrou drink.
“You know. I must say that since you’ve gotten hooked up with Rafe, you’re a touch more immature than you used to be.”
“Bitch,” she happily smirks at me.
“Can we please stop talking about this and have some fun? I need to burn off some excess energy.” I stand up and stalk to the little dance floor. Jamie follows me, chuckling.
