“Yeah. It feels like I’m making a difference. The government keeps arguing endlessly about carbon tax, no carbon tax, but we… Some of the initiatives we’ve been able to sell have sequestered thousands of tons of carbon in ways that are both sustainable and cost-effective… What?”
I laughed, then shook my head.
“You love this job. You’d be miserable shacking up with me, with nothing better to do. You think you want that, but you don’t. You want this.”
I waved a hand vaguely around the room, and his hand shot out to catch it, but much more gently now. His thumb swiped over the sensitive skin of my inner wrist, forcing me to shiver in response.
“I want every fucking thing in this room—everything. My wolf, he won’t stop pushing me, not until he has it.” He backed me up until my butt hit the meeting table, his hands slapping down either side of my hips, then he leaned in. “I’m fucking tenacious. People complain and compliment me for that.” He smiled slowly then. “Only time will tell where you fall on that account.”
I pressed a hand to his chest, intending to shove him away, but the moment my fingers connected with bare flesh, more than a shiver went through me. My breath was sucked in, and it felt like I…convulsed, my muscles tensing, then releasing all at once, and with it came the sinuous slither of something wet.
“Mm…” Just one little grunt, that was all I got as his hand covered mine, sliding it under his shirt collar and over his heart. “Your slick is coming in, getting you ready for me. You’ll take my knot so damn sweetly next time.”
Knot. Sweet. Next time. They were like splashes of cold water on my face, dispelling this god-awful heat.
“Lucien–”
“Tell me you don’t feel that.” His hand reached out and settled over my pelvis, causing a warmth to flare in response. “Tell me you don’t ache for what only I can give you.”
“Lucien!”
“Say my name, omega…” He darted in closer, his breath feathering across my lips, treating me to a foreshadowing of what it would be like if he kissed me, and my lips parted in response. “Say it when you’re mad, sad, angry, or wanting to hate fuck against my office walls, my brothers’ oh so sensitive ears hearing the muffled sounds of your little whimpers as I mould that hot little pussy of yours to my cock.” His head cocked to one side. “Until my knot is permanently locked down inside you, never to be released, and my fangs are in your neck.”
“Lucien…”
I was trying to reprimand him, but the longer his hand rested over my pelvis, the more the warmth grew, getting hotter, slicker, more swollen.
“Lucien…”
“There she is,” he hissed, his eyes shining silver as he raked his eyes all over me, taking in my every response. “There’s my girl, my omega.”
His head darted closer, ready to take my lips with his, but it was his last few words that had me shoving him away and then taking hurried steps towards the door.
“Don’t run. I told you what would happen if you ran.”
His voice was his wolf’s right now, not the man’s, and when I looked back, it felt like it was his beast tracking my progress towards the door.
“I have to,” I said in a short voice, putting my hand on the door handle and wrenching it open. “When you calm down, you’ll realise that too.”
A sharp knock at the door forced Lucien to stop where he was, but you only had to take one look at the two of us and our flustered expressions to get a hint of what was going down.
Which was exactly what Tobias did.
Those brown eyes gave nothing away while seeing everything, those full lips pursing for a moment before he spoke to the two of us.
“Riley Taylor and her pack are here to see you, Sage. They made themselves available at their earliest possible convenience, as I requested. I’ve set them up in my office. I’ll be down in IT talking to Max further about how to implement his suggestions. You’ll be uninterrupted in there.”
Something that Lucien couldn’t promise, that went unspoken.
“Don’t quit,” I told Lucien, and he shifted then, taking a step closer. “We’ll find a way through this.”
“We’re talking about this today, Sage.” There was no allowance for a refusal in Lucien’s voice. “You do whatever you have to, but at five PM, I’ll be here, in your space, at your desk—”
“Luc…” Tobias snarled.
“Ready to whisk you away from every other distraction, if that’s what it takes. No excuses.”
“Goddammit, Luc! We talked about this,” Tobias snapped, then strode forward, putting himself between his brother and me.
