We pushed the door open to the room, blinds over all of the windows creating a soft grey gloom that let us take a full breath. The floor was covered in soft matting, and across one wall was a massive low bed. We jumped up on it, sniffing at it thoroughly, not detecting the scents of any other omegas before we went still. Our muzzle peeled back from our fangs, a snarl forming as we heard them coming, then we crouched down low, our haunches coiled, ready to strike, when they appeared.

“Found your nest, omega?” The pretty one with hair like the sun walked in, that smile of his sharp now. “But it’s not quite right, is it?” We snarled as he held out a bag.

“Open it, fuckwit,” the big one rumbled. “Let her see what it is.”

“Everything you need is in this bag,” said the contained, powerful one. “You have the beginnings of a nest, but this isn’t right, not yet.”

The last one, the one whose wolf fought him for control, stepped forward and tore the bag open, spilling its treasure all over the floor.

Lengths of fabric tumbled out, of different colours and textures, and we took an involuntary step forward. Our nose worked frantically, while these men, they crouched down now, making themselves smaller as they got closer.

“This is what you need,” the contained one insisted. “Soft fabrics, ones that will feel so good on your skin.”

“These are made from our old sheets,” said the big one.

“These are some of those old T-shirts you like the sleep in,” the smiling one said.

“You need them.” The wild one, his look, the way fur prickled across his arms, he seemed to be the one to listen to right now. “You need to build a nest. You need to come back to us so we can—”

“Not yet.” We snarled when the powerful one silenced him. “Not yet. Nest first, then…”

What was left of my human brain wanted that sentence finished, but the wolf? She snatched at lengths of fabric and dragged them onto the mattress, going back for more and then nosing them into place, working and working until finally, she turned three times and settled in amongst all this softness.

That was when I returned.

I felt shivery and hot, all at the same time, and I looked up at all four of my mates in incomprehension, feeling alien impulses hammering me.

“You’re going into heat,” Max said with a smile. He tried for gentle but failed.

“And we’re going to tend you through it,” Tobias said.

“No…”

This was why safe words were so important. I was saying the word, even as I knew in my bones that this needed to happen. People had explained to me beforehand, but I hadn’t quite understood, not really. Scarlet had forced us to develop a heat contract, so I knew what was going to happen, but… It was a whole lot different discussing something objectively and feeling it.

“I…”

“You need us,” Lucien insisted.

“But…”

“We have everything you need. We will tend to you and look after you for every damn minute of this,” Beau said. “You know that. Look at me, omega.” My eyes found his, the order unable to be disobeyed, and I was rewarded by a smile that felt like it lit my whole body up. “We’ll give you everything you need. We always will.”

As if that was decided, he nodded for Tobias to come forward.

Another bag was produced, but I moved much more restively now when I saw it. There was something, many somethings inside it, and I needed them.

“Tobias…”

This was scary and alienating and overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure what to do, but each one of them dropped down on the bed and moved closer.

“We’ve got you, omega. Let us in, and we’ll take all of the pain away and replace it only with pleasure,” Tobias said. “But you have to let us in. We can’t do anything without your permission.”

Before I could respond, my whole body began to shake, the heat flaring hotter, harder, something tightening and convulsing inside me. It was as if the wolf was trying to claw her way out, but I knew it wasn’t her. Fire, it felt like fire, licking all over my skin, forcing my thighs apart, leaning forward into their space.

“Alphas…” I whined. “I ache. Make it better.”
