She laughs and tucks her face against my neck while she holds out the ring to admire it.

As soon as I unlock the phone, the screen glitches. An animation of a crow flies across the screen and lands on a skull. Shit. My stomach clenches. I promised Colton, and now Wren is calling to collect on the favors I owe to my brothers.

Cinching my arm tighter around Maisy, I tap on the animation and the encrypted message loads.

“Goddamn it,” I mutter.

“What is it?” Maisy asks.

“We’re going to have to delay our celebrating for a little bit.” I tilt the screen toward her to show her the message. “I have to go to Thorne Point. It has to do with Ethan Hannigan.”

Her brows draw together. “The journalist we met in Ridgeview?”

“Yeah. Something happened to him. He’s missing.”

“Oh shit,” she murmurs, concern lacing her tone. “Do you think something bad happened?”

Shrugging, I shift her off my lap and get up. Damn, I’ll have to get someone to cover the shop. I don’t know how long this trip to the east coast will take. But this is what it means to be in with the Crows; when they call in favors, there’s no hesitation. They helped me time and again, now I’ll do the same for them.

“I’ll be back as soon as I can,” I promise.

“Fox Michael Wilder.” Maisy crosses her arms and plants herself in front of me to stop me in my tracks. “If you think I’m letting you go all the way to Maine to help Colton without me, you’re wrong. We’re going together.”

My heart fucking melts. “Okay. We go together. Me and you.”

“Me and you,” she repeats with a resolute nod. “No matter what.”

Wherever we go, it’s always together.
