“That something bad might be going on within your company. All of the Colters’ Pack we have encountered in the recent past, had built escape tunnels. It’s how we captured Dr. Elkhart. In his case, we had someone waiting at the exit to take him down.”

“I don’t know what to say,” she said.

From the noise in the background, Paris was still at work. “Say nothing and be careful.”

“I will. Thanks.”

Grayson disconnected. While Rider probably heard her response, he told him what she said.

“I’m going to contact the general and ask for help.” Rider snapped his fingers. “Or, I can see if two of my men want to join us. That will be faster. Not that teaching people how to fight isn’t exciting, but two of my top men might like a change of scenery.”

“That would be great. We paying for their room and board or do you want to ask the general to pony up the expense?”

“I’d say we pay for now,” Rider said. “We can ask the general later if need be.”

When Rider pulled into the motel lot, he motioned for Grayson to follow him into his room. “I’ll give the men a call now.”

It only took him a few minutes to convince Liam and Alex to make the two-hour trip to Ames. He turned to Grayson. “How about renting a room for my two men?” He pulled out his credit card, but Grayson held up a hand.

“Let me. You’re probably losing revenue by having them here.”

“Thanks.”

Grayson would be happy to have a few of his people here to help, but he wasn’t sure any of them were well-trained enough. However, he had another thought. After he went to the office and rented a room, he returned to Rider’s room. “I have an idea.”

“Do tell.”

“My software company works with a firm that produces waterproof trackers. We do the programming, and they manufacture the product.”

“What do they track?”

Grayson smiled. “It keeps track of anything that moves—animals, people, cars, you name it. The beauty of it is that the item is very small.”

“I sense you think we can use this device?”

“I do. I plan to ask Paris to wear one or more of them. She can put it in her hair, on her clothing, or anywhere. That way, if something happens to her, we’ll know where she is.”

Rider huffed out a laugh. “It would be radical if we could plant one on Richard Delancey to keep track of him.”

Grayson smiled. “I always thought you were a realist.”

“Usually, I am. Do you really think Paris will agree to being tracked? I mean, she seems quite independent.”

“She might agree, she might not, but I’d feel bad if we didn’t even ask.”

“That’s logical. Can you get a few?”

“Absolutely. I’ll give my people a call now.”

Rider gave him the once over. “I get it. You’re jealous that my firm is contributing manpower, and you’re trying to do one better.”

His friend knew him well. “Maybe, but like we’ve always said, you’re the brawn, and I’m the brains.” He immediately held up his hands to prevent another punch. “Only kidding. Kind of.”

With that, Grayson pulled out his phone to make his call.

“Was that one of your boyfriends?” Jenna asked Paris with a grin on her face.
