“I had actually thought of putting hidden cameras or microphones in some of the offices—assuming I could gain access to the rooms—but I have this sixth sense we’re being watched.”

“If Delancey is like his Colter brother, I wouldn’t be surprised. Better scratch that idea.”

“Rider, what do you think of getting a job as a janitor?” Grayson asked.

He glanced over at Paris and then back at Grayson. “That’s a possibility. No one pays attention to someone cleaning the offices.” He faced Paris. “Do you know where they post job openings?”

“I found my job online.”

“Good to know. If I think we need to go that route, I’ll apply.”

The server came by, and they ordered.

“Paris, you told Rider that your goal is to find out who is trafficking these drugs. How were you planning to accomplish that exactly?”

She wondered when they’d ask her that question. “I kept hoping I’d find significant inconsistencies in the inventory and turn the information over to the police. I’d let them take it from there. Jenna is also helping me. She’s in accounting. So far, however, things look to be legitimate.”

“Yet, you’re convinced they aren’t squeaky clean,” Grayson stated.

“Right, but the problem is that I have no proof they are making cocaine or any other illegal drug.” She wasn’t going to tell them the real reason why she wanted to take down Harrison Industries.

Grayson clasped her hand but let go quickly. “Don’t worry. We’ll figure something out.”

“What do you think?” Rider asked once the two of them slipped back into the car. He didn’t start the engine until Paris had left the restaurant parking lot, and he made sure no one was following her.

“I think I’m in love,” Grayson announced.

Rider put the car in gear and took off. “I’m being serious.”

“So am I.”

“Fine. You’re in love. I’m happy for you. Back to my question. What did you think about what she said?”

“I didn’t get the sense Paris was hiding anything. You?”

“The same. The problem is that I don’t think she knows that much, so why is she so hell bent on pointing a finger at the company where she works? Most people would be trying to say someone else is guilty.”

Grayson didn’t say anything for a moment. “That’s an excellent question. We can ask her, but she might not know herself. Even if she did, she might not want to say. To be honest, she has no reason to trust two strangers who just rolled into town yesterday.”

“You’re right. What do you want to do next?”

“I’d like to go back to the hill and spend more time looking around.”

“What do you hope to see this time?” Rider asked.

“I’m not sure. I didn’t check out the area fully before. I mostly sat in one spot and watched. The next time, I'll take my binoculars for better viewing.”

Since Rider didn’t have a better solution, he was game. “Tomorrow, we should see if Paris can ask Jenna if she knows anything more about her cousin’s friend’s death. It would be natural for her to ask questions.”

“Good idea.”

Rider arrived at the motel and parked. Out of habit he looked around to make sure no one was lying in wait—not that he expected it. Yet.

CHAPTERSEVEN

“This was where I was yesterday.”Grayson stopped about one hundred feet behind the fence that bordered the Harrison Industries’ complex.
